The ideal candidate will be able to perform in a high-pressure environment, appropriately motivate staff, organize, and prioritize work, and have excellent interpersonal skills.Under the direction of the Director/Assistant Vice President/Vice President and in collaboration with Section Chairs and Nursing leadership, the Ambulatory Practice Manager manages and coordinates the daily operational activities of one or more ambulatory practices. Responsible for patient scheduling and registration, billing, insurance authorizations, and implementation of MedStar policies and procedures through direct supervision of subordinate staff. Oversees all administrative staff responsible for ensuring successful clinical operations. Responsible for fiscal and budget management, including billing processes, charge entry and reconciliation. Works closely with leadership to develop, implement, and sustain leading practice models for ambulatory practice management, including training, planning, coordination of shared services, facility management, and general operations.Primary Duties:Responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the physician practice location(s). Implements policies and procedures of physician practice management and operations in collaboration with physician and nursing leadership. Implements and manages appropriate programs and services in keeping with the goals of the department. Works with staff to ensure the smooth flow of patients through the practice(s) and all work is performed accurately and within specified time constraints.Oversees management of schedule templates for all providers. Ensures templates are organized so patients can be scheduled immediately or within 24-72 hours (about 3 days) for less urgent requests.Responsible for maximizing professional revenue, including insurance verification and eligibility, insurance authorizations, collection of payments, and reconciliation of charges. Educates staff and physicians as appropriate. Determines and submits revenue, staffing, operating and capital budgets and ensures that fiscal targets are realized. Analyzes and reports on variances and develops corrective action plans to ensure unfavorable variances are improved. Monitors expenditures and income levels monthly. Ensures accurate productivity measures for monitoring the departments' activities.Interviews, hires, evaluates the performance of staff in collaboration with the nursing leader, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges. Develops performance evaluation standards and objectives and monitors staff performance. Assigns duties and responsibilities with physician leaders. Ensures training and development of staff, approves personnel actions, and resolves staff grievances to ensure compliance with Hospital and contractual stipulations.Oversees the process of authorization for services, to include visits and surgeries.Conducts biennial code and fee reviews. Ensures that charge sheets are updated as necessary.Ensures hospital charges are entered correctly, in a timely manner. Reconciles all charges to ensure timely charge capture.Responsible for the preparation and monitoring of budgets (capital, expense, staffing, and revenue) for designated cost centers and special purpose funds. Monthly variance analysis and reporting is required.Ensures patient registration complies with all Hospital and Medicare/Medicaid regulations/policies and all applicable federal and local laws. Updates/trains staff on changes as necessary developing/implementing new practice policies/procedures as necessary at all practice locations.Leads the practice in managing formal performance improvement initiatives. Prepares reports of successful practice indicators for review. Prepares and/or helps prepare administrative policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.Implements new services and technological advancements. Coordinates acquisition process of capital equipment and supplies for approval.Participates on departmental and hospital committees as appointed.Implements best practice models for ambulatory practice management, including training, planning, coordination of shared services, facility management, and general operations.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in business administration, Health Services Administration or directly related discipline required.Master's degree preferred.3-4 years' progressively more responsible job-related experience in hospital administration or management of a large business operation required.Membership in a professional group such as MGMA and/or ACHE preferred.This position has a hiring range of $80,995 - $144,102
