The Director and Chief Curator will be an engaged and visionary leader with significant museum experience to provide strategic and collaborative leadership for the
Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston School of the Arts . The Director and Chief Curator is responsible for shaping the Institute’s mission and profile. This position is the Chief Curator of the Institute and leads the efforts to present all exhibitions and programs in a successful and professional manner. The Director and Chief Curator has primary responsibility for all aspects of the Institute’s operation and management, including fiscal and personnel management, as well as for raising funds to support the Institute.Requirements
Minimum requirements:
Undergraduate Degree in Art History, Arts Management, Museum Studies, or Studio Art. Advanced degree preferred.Five years of senior curatorial and administrative experience in a museum or gallery managing and curating contemporary art exhibitions.Professional experience in higher education or non-profit environment preferred.Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Extensive experience with exhibition planning, design, and installation, with an emphasis on contemporary art.Demonstrated knowledge of standards and best practices for art museums and galleries.Record of success in donor relations, fundraising, and grant writing.Demonstrated knowledge of professional colleagues in the museum field.Application Instructions
