The Sensor Modeling and Simulation Department (SMSD) resides within ESD. Our team includes scientists and engineers across a broad range of disciplines actively engaged in developing the next generation of remote sensing systems of national importance.SMSD supports all aspects of advanced remote sensing system development:designing and assessing the performance of optics and the technology components of electro-optical sensor systems,modeling the end-to-end sensing system,developing innovative data processing and computer vision algorithms, andproducing simulated data products for new applications.We are seeking to hire multiple team members to join the Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Ground team, helping to model, evaluate, and architect the US Government's next-generation GEOINT ground mission management, command and control, and mission data processing systems.This is a full-time position based in Chantilly, Virginia.What You'll Be DoingDevelop innovative techniques and tools for modeling, simulation, visualization, and evaluation of GEOINT mission management, command and control, and mission data processing systems.Design, perform, document, and present studies that inform and influence key future GEOINT ground system architecting and acquisition decisions and strategies.Serve as a technical advisor to government and internal Aerospace customers to define key performance metrics and schemas for associated essential data exchanges.Proactively identify new technologies and commercially available capabilities for potential integration into the GEOINT ground framework.What You Need to be SuccessfulMinimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Remote Sensing, Imaging Science, Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Optical or Electrical Engineering, or another related STEM discipline.Industry work experience with one or more of the following: ground system modeling, GEOINT remote sensing modeling, simulation, design, data processing, calibration, characterization, phenomenology, or applications.Experience in at least one of the following domains: mission control or mission processing systems for space and/or airborne systems, GEOINT system tasking and/or data processing, or software development.Strong scientific programming skills in one or more of: Matlab, IDL, Python, C++, etc.Solid base knowledge of how cloud environments work.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as an integration leader or coordinator across technical contributors.Demonstrated strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.Demonstrated strong written and oral communications skills with ability to clarify complex issues and ensure audience understanding.Willingness to travel approximately 10% of time.This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.How You Can Stand OutIt would be impressive if you have one or more of these:Advanced degree from an accredited program in Remote Sensing, Imaging Science, Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Optical or Electrical Engineering, or another related discipline.At least eight years of experience after bachelor's degree with ground system modeling, GEOINT product development, or image or signal processing.Experience in more than one of the following domains: mission control or mission processing systems for space systems, GEOINT system tasking and/or data processing, and software development.Experience with discrete event modeling.Hands-on experience designing systems that operate in a cloud environment.Experience with agile software development and Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence).Experience with open standardized data formats, such as XML, JSON, or YAML.Proven experience in leadership and ability to mentor junior staff.Current and active Top Secret/SCI security clearance.Leadership CompetenciesOur leadership philosophy is simple: every employee, regardless of level and role, can demonstrate leadership.
