I. JOB OVERVIEWThis leadership Director of Gift Processing position directs the acceptance, accurate and timely deposit, processing, and preparation of official documentation, such as receipts, for all philanthropic gifts to the university. The Director of Gift Processing leads a team and is responsible for ensuring that all documentation is present and correct before processing, and authorizes the creation, modification and closure of fund accounts for philanthropic gifts as appropriate. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance and determines future staffing needs. This position is in the central division with enterprise-wide scope.Responsibilities include:Maintains the integrity of gift records and oversees staff to accurately document the donor's intended gift designation, ensuring data is collected and preserved to support development activities.Ensures compliance with all gift processing policies and governing regulations regarding gift acceptance, the processing and receipting of charitable gifts, and ensures that gift procedures and policies are up to date and meet industry best practices.Works closely with the Office of the University Controller, the Financial Operations departments, and finance staff across the university to ensure overall integrity of the university's fiscal activities through policy compliance and strong internal controls. The position is responsible for cash handling, gift processing and accounting, as well as interfacing with finance departments for gift and pledge reconciliation and endowment establishment.Collaborates across the university and with internal DAR stakeholders to lead upgrades, enhancements, and the setup of targeted solutions for gift processing-such as merchant processing, digital wallets, caging and cashiering, business intelligence solutions, and third-party donor acquisition and engagement platforms. This ensures the correct functionality, integrity, and consistency of gift recording and processing systems across Advancement.Responds to specific donor/departmental requests where necessary.Maintains effective customer service policies and procedures.Recommends and implements enhancements to processes to increase accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness while maintaining appropriate internal controls.Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree preferably in Business or Accounting.Two or more years of relevant work experience in higher education or a similar non-profit fundraising environment preferred.Demonstrated experience at delivering high performance from gift processing team and ability to maintain highest degree of accuracy.Practiced knowledge of fundraising industry standards for gift processing.Experience and expertise in understanding, interpreting, implementing and complying with FASB, CASE, NACUBO and IRS standards and guidelines concerning charitable giving.Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to interact courteously and effectively with internal and external contacts at all levels.Excellent managerial skills, to include the ability to coach subordinates and foster professional growth.Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work to meet defined goals and objectives.Resourceful, creative problem-solver who recognizes concerns and implements an innovative approach when generating new ideas and solutions.Collaborative approach, with a creative, flexible, and solutions-oriented perspective who is comfortable with working in a highly dynamic environment.Strong personal and professional integrity.Hiring Range:
