About the Economic Statecraft InitiativeHoused within the GeoEconomics Center, the Economic Statecraft Initiative sheds light on what are becoming first-line tools of American power - sanctions, export controls, investment screening, and trade restrictions. The initiative leverages deep government experience, regulatory expertise, and proprietary data to produce widely read analysis and expert briefings. Their impactful body of work includes the internationally recognized Global Sanctions Dashboard and Russia Sanctions Database.

About the GeoEconomics CenterThe GeoEconomics Center is committed to the mission of developing a rich set of programs and thought leadership at the intersection of economics, finance, and foreign policy. The Center aims to bridge the divide between these oft-siloed sectors and be a translation hub, with the goal of helping shape a better global economic future. The US must lead with allies or risk becoming a bystander in a splintering global economy. At a time of global economic recession and fractured US politics, this mission has never been more important. The Center is organized around three core pillars: 1) The Future of Capitalism; 2) The Future of Money; and 3) The Economic Statecraft Initiative.

Overview of the RoleThe Atlantic Council seeks a talented organizer, thinker, designer, and communicator for a full-time Project Assistant position to serve in its GeoEconomics Center's Economic Statecraft Initiative. The Project Assistant will focus on supporting our economic statecraft mission, including conducting research to prepare the initiative director for public appearances, sending out email marketing and invitations, planning events, preparing formal invitations and participants lists, producing social media content, and conducting research and producing data visualizations for the various trackers of the Initiative.

Reporting to the Director of the Economic Statecraft Initiative, the successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, and enjoy the complexity of helping to build a rapidly growing program. The candidate should have some background in economics with an interest in foreign affairs. The position requires a strong aptitude for organizing programs and events, strong social media skills, excellent administrative and communication skills, superior writing ability, extraordinary attention to detail, and a proven aptitude to manage day-to-day logistics of a fast-paced Center.

The successful candidate for this position will be committed to the Atlantic Council's core mission to renew the Atlantic community for global challenge. A successful candidate should have particular interest in, and/or experience with, sanctions, export controls, investment screening, trade policy and financial markets. Finally, the candidate will have a desire to excel in the position and seek advancement within the organization. This position will be located in Washington, DC.

This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week in office. The Atlantic Council offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers from $24.04 to $26.44 per hour. Applications submitted by September 30, 2024 will be prioritized for consideration.

Job ResponsibilitiesSupport the organization and execution of the Economic Statecraft Initiative events; liaising with the office of external relations and other relevant programs, coordinating travel arrangements as needed, and helping to prepare briefing material for guests coming to Washington and for trips abroad;Managing the calendar, scheduling calls, meetings, and frequent travel;Help lead in implementing the communications and promotion strategy around core events and programming, including social media crafting and promotion, multimedia, website management, and follow-up;Conduct research as needed to support Center activities; including briefings on current events, key stakeholders, and emerging issues;Contribute to the data visualization component of the work and assist with research tasks;Assist in the supervision and management of the Initiative interns;Perform research and proposal writing tasks as assigned.

QualificationsDemonstrable interest in international affairs and international economics, trade, or business. A graduate student or a recent graduate in Economics is ideal.Applicants must be able to work full-time (40 hrs/week).Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence are a must.Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detailed projects efficiently in a fluid environment.Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills.
