Job Summary:The Assurance Manager is responsible for supervising, directing, and reviewing the results through the delegation of tasks throughout the planning, field work and "wrap-up" stages of an Audit client engagement. In this role, the Assurance Manager is charged with marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise, as well as ensuring engagement profitability involving billings and collections. Responsibilities include advising the client on various economic and regulatory risks, resolving complex accounting issues, applying GAAP and GAAS consistently, writing technical consultation memos on GAAP/GAAS issues, and documenting, validating, testing, and assessing financial reporting control systems.Job Duties:Control Environment:Applies knowledge and understanding of the collective effect of various factors on establishing or enhancing effectiveness, or mitigating risks of specific policies and procedures.Validates and assesses effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting.Identifies and communicates to management and audit committee suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.Identifies and delegates functions of the audit to the auditor in charge as deemed appropriate.Supervises the work of the audit team and reviews workpapers and conclusions preferably onsite during audit field work.Provides on-the-job training to the engagement staff during audit field work.GAAP:Applies knowledge and understanding of governing principles to client transactions and documents the application of these principles.Identifies and consults with clients on the impact of new accounting pronouncements.Drafts complex financial statements and related footnote disclosures and effectively communicates these to clients.Identifies complex accounting issues and documents resolutions, seeking counsel of BDO technical experts as needed.SEC and PCAOB:Applies knowledge and understanding of SEC regulations and PCAOB guidelines.Reviews SEC filings for appropriateness in form, content, completeness, and accuracy.Ensures compliance with engagement independence requirements.GAAS:Applies knowledge and understanding of professional standards and documents the application of these standards on engagements.Provides guidance to others and affirms conclusions made by others.Communicates matters required to be reported to the Audit Committee/Board.Methodology:Applies knowledge and application of BDO standards that guide delivery of quality services.Conducts detailed reviews to assure audits are completed in accordance with assurance manual standards.Plans the audit process and oversees execution with quality and efficiency.Research:Applies methodology to seek information from authoritative sources and draws conclusions.Defines methodology to conduct research projects and completes them in a timely manner.Supervisory Responsibilities:Responsible for supervision of Associates and Senior Associates on projects.Review work prepared by Associates and provide feedback.Act as a Career Advisor to Associates and Senior Associates.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.Master's degree in Accountancy preferred.Experience:Five or more years of relevant audit experience required.Prior significant supervisory experience required.License/Certifications:Active licensed US CPA required.If international equivalent, required to obtain an active US CPA license within approved timeframe.Software:Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Sound GAAP and GAAS knowledge.Familiarity with SEC and PCAOB reporting rules.Proven solid verbal and written communication skills.Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of numerous factors including qualifications, experience, and geography.California Range: $120,000 - $140,000Colorado Range: $95,000 - $120,000Illinois Range: $100,000 - $120,000Maryland Range: $105,000 - $125,000Minnesota Range: $92,000 - $106,000NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $110,000 - $150,000Washington Range: $100,000 - $110,000
