SALARY RANGE: $226,409.43 - $244,284.29

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves administering anesthesia to patients undergoing surgical procedures within the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent administers anesthesia and anesthesia care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical procedures. Work is performed in collaboration with a qualified anesthesiologist. Supervision is exercised over student anesthetists and other health care providers. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Performs and documents a pre-anesthetic assessment; develops and implements an anesthetic plan and initiates the technique;

Selects and applies the appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitors;

Selects and administers anesthetic adjuvant drugs and fluids to manage the anesthetic;

Manages patient airway and pulmonary status;

Facilitates emergence and recovery from anesthesia;

Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management and advanced cardiac life support techniques;

Provides clinical and didactic teaching to student anesthetists and other health care providers;

Provides advanced cardiac life support instruction and in-service education.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of various anesthesia agents and their applications; good knowledge of anesthesiology equipment; ability to administer general anesthetics and to apply inhalation and resuscitation techniques; ability to supervise and train others; ability to work under pressure; dependability; resourcefulness; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a registered School of Professional Nursing and graduation from a Nurse Anesthesia Program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse as issued by the New York State Department of Education at time of appointment; and:

Completion of an accredited Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist program and board eligible for certification to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at time of appointment; and:

Possession of a current certification to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist issued by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists within six (6) months of appointment; and:

Possession of an Advanced Life Support Certificate at time of appointment.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
