Job Role Summary
The Stroke Rounding Nurse serves as the principle point of contact for the providers, care team, patients, and families during inpatient rounds with a focus on stroke activation response, protocol adherence, stroke outcomes, stroke research, and quality patient care. This position proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County and models Eskenazi Health values.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
* Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi values* Assists direct patient care of the stroke patient in the emergency department and throughout the hospital for Stroke One Activations while on-site. Assists with documentation of stroke assessments to assure provider response times and patient assessments are recorded appropriately* Serves as content expert, a resource, and instructor for neuroscience education during orientation, competencies, skills fairs, and other education opportunities as needed* Supports regulatory readiness for nursing units via rounding, coaching, and monitoring. Is aware of current standards and regulation applicable to clinical units* Provides continuity of care ensuring smooth transitions between care settings, facilitates post-discharge appointments and outpatient testing as deemed by the Neurologist involved in the stroke care of the patient* Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and other departments to develop and interdisciplinary plan of care and individualizing stroke education plan and patient needs* Develops and facilitates Stroke support group for patients and families affected by stroke* Participates in educational opportunities with EMS organizations, other healthcare facilities, community organizations, and other outreach events* Assists the Stroke Program Manager and Stroke Performance Improvement Coordinator(s) in the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement plan* Follows up on patient incidents and complaints as delegated by management
Job Requirements
* Minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing.* Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse* RN Degree from nationally accredited college or university* Minimum of 5 years of recent critical care, emergency department, or similar clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse* Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications, ENLS preferred* Current specialty Board Certification, such as CEN, CCRN, SCRN, or CNRN or relevant and approved by ANCC preferred or must earn SCRN or CNRN within 2 years of accepting position.* Completes and maintains Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) research training as determined by IU and Eskenazi Institutional Review Board (IRB).* Meets the requirements of a Staff Nurse II and can function as a staff nurse II as needed.* Maintains professional development through a variety of activities such as national certifications, ongoing education, conferences, mentorships, teaching, and participating in professional nursing organizations.
