UW Medical Center-Northwest - Spine Center has an outstanding opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant).
WORK SCHEDULE
100% FTE
Day shift, 4x10s each week
Monday - Friday, with potential for occasional weekend coverage
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Spine Center, which is part of our Department of Neurological Surgery, uses the latest technology and a multidisciplinary approach to treat simple and complex surgical spine conditions. Our surgeons provide care for common issues, including sciatica, slipped discs, scoliosis, and lower back pain. We also provide diagnostic intervention and minimally invasive surgery for tumors and blood clots.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Provide neurosurgical services in outpatient, inpatient, and Operating Room settings
Work alongside attending physicians, fellows, and residents across the Neurological Surgery continuum of care
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Outpatient Responsibilities
Provides pre-surgical care, which includes surgical clearance, H&P, and coordination of care with anesthesia, medicine, and inpatient team for complex cases
Provides post-operative care, which includes post-operative clinic visits, medication management, pathology follow-up, and coordination of care with consult services
Triages patient messages and implements a plan of care
Interprets lab and diagnostic tests results and consults with attending physician
Inpatient Responsibilities
Participates in daily morning and afternoon rounds
Provides daily care, which includes evaluating and managing patients, writing daily progress notes, and formulating/implementing plans
Coordinates patient care with other services (endocrinology, internal medicine, neurology, ENT, ID)
May perform the following procedures: lumbar punctures, drain removal (Subgaleal, JP, Hemovac), external ventricular drain placement and removal, lumbar drain placement and removal, shunt/Ommaya tapping, nasal endoscopy
Additional Responsibilities
Attends monthly Quality Improvement (QI) meetings and participates in ongoing QI research and projects
Partakes in monthly case presentations and journal clubs that are led by the APP with Physician support
Provides clinical mentoring to APP students and interns
Attends team educational conferences (M&M, surgical grand rounds, tumor boards)
REQUIREMENTS
Current and valid Washington State ARNP licensure or Physician Assistant licensure
Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or an accredited Physician Assistant Program
DEA prescriptive authority
BLS
ACLS

The Department of Neurological Surgery at the UW Montlake and Northwest campuses provides patient care services for a broad range of neurological diseases and disorders.
