Position Highlights:
Position Title: Infectious Surveillance Control Nurse
Location: Rhode Island Department of Health Hybrid (Providence, RI) - office two days per week
Position End Date: 6/30/2025
Salary: $97,500
Overview:
The CDC Foundation is seeking a Public Health Nurse assigned to the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). This position will be in the Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology (CAIDE), within the Division of Emergency Preparedness and Infectious Disease (EPID). This position will be responsible for any of the following: conducting surveillance and providing guidance on various acute infectious diseases, conducting infection control assessment and outbreak investigations at various facilities throughout the state, and providing infection control education to various audiences on-line and in person.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing
• Active nursing license in the state of Rhode Island
• At least four years of nursing practice or experience as a medical professional in a public health agency or clinic setting
Qualifications:
• Knowledge of infection control practices (infection control certification preferred)
• Valid driver's license and willingness to drive personal vehicle to field visits
• Willingness to conduct a field visit to a facility that may be experiencing an outbreak
• Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize a large caseload, and pay attention to detail
• Extensive experience collaborating with other teams/groups
• Ability to work in a professional team environment, as well as independently
• Bilingual individuals who are fluent in Spanish preferred
Responsibilities:
• Interviewing individuals using a standardized case report form
• Conducting medical chart reviews
• Completing surveillance case report forms
• Entering the data into the electronic surveillance system
• Counseling clients and offering clinical and educational nursing services to various agencies, such as long-term care facilities, schools, and daycares
• Participating in outbreak investigations;
• Conducting on-site infection control assessments in various settings, such as long-term care facilities, schools, and daycares
• Developing a plan to address infection control concerns and communicating this plan in written and oral format to the facility
• Working in a supportive, non-regulatory role to build competence and confidence in infection prevention and control
• Addressing infection control issues on site and providing immediate corrective action education
• Counseling clients and offering clinical and educational nursing services to various agencies,
• Participating in meetings with internal and external staff to discuss unique cases and determine next steps
• Using data to inform outreach, screening, case-finding and follow-up.
• Monitoring infection control activities within program for clients, employees and the community as appropriate.
• Directing and providing educational and informational materials to individuals, families and communities in various cultural and socio-economic situations
• Maintaining data and patient information in compliance with confidentiality policies.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Rhode Island Department of Health in order to best support the State of Rhode Island in their public health programming.
This position is currently a hybrid position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
