**Huntsman Cancer Hospital Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Clinician Inpatient Fellowship**

Explore this exciting opportunity to complete a 12-month training program with the Inpatient Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) Service at the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). The Postgraduate Oncology APC training program will prepare APCs to care for cancer patients as part of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on inpatient care.

As a valued member of a dynamic team, the APC is on the front-line of patient care. The person chosen for this fulltime, benefited position, will train with multiple different teams to provide care for oncology/hematology patients at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. This approach will allow for understanding of the most common cancers and the differing treatment options. There will be an emphasis on hematology and oncology patients and the goal will be to assume an open full time inpatient hematology or oncology position following successful completion of the fellowship.

**Responsibilities**

+ Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.

+ Performs physical examinations.

+ Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.

+ May perform bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, skin biopsies, lumbar punctures; administers intrathecal chemotherapy; and may participate in bone marrow harvests.

+ May monitor the level of and adjust immunosuppressive medications.

+ Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.

+ Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.

+ Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.

+ Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.

+ Assists in the collection of data for research projects.

+ Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.

+ Participates in special projects and committee functions.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

+ Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

+ Current license to practice as a Physician's Assistant in the State of Utah

OR

+ Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.

**Qualifications (Preferred)**

**Preferred**

+ Utah State prescriptive privilege preferred.

+ Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

+ To obtain licensure requires graduation from an AMA approved Physician Assistant program. Specialty experience is preferred on a position-by-position basis.

+ UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

**Working Conditions and Physical Demands**

+ This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care.
