Provides Basic Life Support including medical evaluation, treatment and stabilization of both non-critically and critically ill or injured patients; responds to emergency rescue situations involving potential loss of life or severe bodily injury; maintains control, manages and directs patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency; provides training and instruction to lesser trained personnel; operates and maintains assigned Mobile Intensive Care Unit as well as EMS Headquarters.Essential Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provides prehospital medical care during emergency situations to include Basic Life Support activities, up to current Texas State certification level.

Drive Mobile Intensive Care Units to emergency scenes, transport accident victims and medical patients to hospitals.

Assist and coordinate with other emergency service agencies in rescue operations, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergency situations.

Perform a variety of emergency medical treatment services at the basic life support level.

Employ safe lifting and moving techniques. Maintain ambulance vehicle and equipment.

Assist in training public on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) standard first aid, and emergency medical techniques. Participate in public health screening.

Assist EMS Director and/or EMS Supervisor in performing the full range of basic life support functions.

Communicate clearly and appropriately when utilizing the Department's communication equipment in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Maintains equipment; checks and replaces damaged and used supplies; and cleans the fire station.

Receive technical and functional supervision from EMS Management Staff.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge of: Medical equipment and inventory.English grammar, spelling, punctuationModern office procedures, methods and computer equipment

Skill in: Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationshipsPerforming a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature

Ability to: Assess and diagnose patients with medical complaints.Remain calm and customer focused during highly stressful situationsIdentify mechanical issues with the ambulance and medical equipmentCommunicate effectively, both orally and in writingUnderstand and carry out oral and written directionsAccurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic filesMaintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries

Other Information

Required Experience: At least six (6) months of Emergency Medical Service 911-experience, preferred

Required Licenses or CertificationsCompletion of Texas DSHS EMT Each individual must qualify and be re-certified prior to the end of their Texas certification period Must maintain CE hours within current Texas DSHS guidelines Valid Texas Driver's License

Pre-Employment Screening: Qualified Candidates must complete a brief physical agility test and Skills/Written ExamOnce offered the position, candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment background screening and drug screening.

This is a safety sensitive position; therefore, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.
