The Endoscopy RN will be responsible for planning andadministering care of the patient undergoing diagnostic Endoscopy procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Applies the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate the care of the patient undergoing a diagnostic endoscopyAssess physical, psychological, psychosocial and educationalneeds of the patientProvides patient with explanations of procedures andtreatmentsDemonstrates awareness and respects all patient's rights,privacy and confidentialityTreats all patients with dignity and respectAssists physician with all endoscopy procedures includingcolonoscopy, bronchoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement, and ERCPFollows facility guidelines in the assessment, care andevaluation of the patient receiving conscious sedationDocuments assessment, administration and patient's responseto conscious sedation according to facility policy and procedureMonitors and documents each intervention during theendoscopy procedureDemonstrates safety and accuracy in the administration,monitoring and documentation of all treatments, medications, and IV therapiesProvides a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environmentfor the patientResponds immediately and appropriately to emergencies oracute changes in patient statusProvides Pathologist and other medical team members withaccurate and complete information regarding specimen collectionAdheres to and applies all principles of infection controlduring endoscopic procedures, with the disinfection and sterilization ofequipment, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and disposing ofbiomedical/hazardous wasteEnsures appropriate care, maintenance and safe handling ofscopes at all timesApplies cautery-grounding pad appropriatelyAdheres to facility guidelines in use ofgluteraldehyde/SterisAssures Endoscopy Department Discharge Criteria are metbefore discharging patientEnsures the discharge process provides continuing care basedon the assessed needs of the patient and communicates explicit time/actiondischarge instructions using simple terminologyEffectively communicates and collaborates with other membersof the health care team and patient's family when appropriate to addresspatient's needs and generate safe patient outcomes
Minimum Requirements:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state inwhich he/she practicesOne (1) year experience in a GI/Endo lab within the lastthree years preferredComplies with all relevant professional standards ofpracticeParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age
