SITE LOCATION: EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner/APRN - ED (Midlevel) provides routine and emergency medical care, under the supervision of a licensed physician. The NP/APRN - ED work in collaboration with the licensed Emergency Medicine Physician who accepts responsibility for the services they render. All NP/APRN - ED charts must be reviewed and co-signed by the Physician prior to the conclusion of each shift.
Neither WCCHC Emergency Department nor any regulatory agency seeks to micromanage the Nurse Practitioner/APRN - ED teams. The Midlevel Practitioner's scope of practice is largely determined by the delegated decisions of the supervising Physician.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner training program AANP certification required
2. Two to three years of post-graduate work experience in an Emergency Department required
3. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
4. Hawaii State Board of Medical Examiners licensure required
5. Controlled substance prescriptive authority required
