Job Title: Nurse Practitioner (NP) Resident

Reports to: Director, Post-Graduate Nurse Practitioner Residency

Introduction

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Resident, under the supervision of the Director of the Post-Graduate Nurse Practitioner Residency, provides culturally competent care in their designated specialty. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating physical and behavioral health conditions, counseling, patient education, and ongoing comprehensive care for patients at Unity Health Care. The NP Resident will perform clinical and administrative tasks to ensure the delivery of quality, safe healthcare services. This role requires a high level of knowledge, professional judgment, and problem-solving.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

Supporting the Quadruple Aim:

* Health Outcomes: * Actively participate in the NP Residency program, including didactic sessions, mentored sessions, precepted sessions, skills workshops, and procedure clinics. * Provide safe and compliant patient care in accordance with Unity Health Care policies and procedures, which includes: * Conducting clinical histories and assessments. * Performing physical exams and evaluations. * Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests. * Making medical decisions, including diagnosis and treatment plans. * Providing preventive care and patient education. * Referring patients to hospitals, specialists, or social services as needed.

* Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care. * Ensure timely and accurate documentation in medical records. * Implement clinical best practices and maintain a culture of safety, including reporting and resolving incidents. * Collaborate with health center leadership on panel and population management. * Maintain clinical privileges and respond promptly to inquiries.

* Patient Experience: * Review patient feedback with the Medical Director and take actionable steps to create a welcoming, patient-centered environment. * Communicate respectfully and partner with patients in their care, using translation services when necessary. * Be timely in patient-facing duties, including visits, returning phone calls, and sharing test results. * Address patient complaints and work towards resolution. * Provide excellent customer service and professionalism at all times. * Maintain a clinical schedule that ensures patient access, including managing time off and rescheduling efficiently. * Participate in after-hours telephone call rotations as required by the specialty. * Ensure punctuality in all aspects of work.

* Care Team Well-being: * Embrace a team mentality by building trust, exchanging feedback, and showing appreciation to team members. * Lead by example and work collaboratively to deliver comprehensive, team-based care. * Actively engage in team, center, and organization-wide meetings. * Exhibit professionalism in all interactions and report any concerns about professional conduct. * Be flexible and adaptable to meet patient and team needs.

* Financial Health: * Monitor personal productivity and utilization levels, working with leadership to optimize visit volume. * Be willing to see patients when needed, such as late or walk-in patients, as schedule permits. * Educate patients on the value of healthcare visits and leverage nursing visits where appropriate. * Participate in population health efforts and collaborate with the Medical Director to optimize patient scheduling. * Identify opportunities to improve workflow and efficiency, implementing improvements with team collaboration. * Ensure timely closure of patient notes (within 48 hours) and resolve any outstanding claims.

Other Duties:

* Serve on committees as requested by the Medical Director or CMO (e.g., P&T, Infection Prevention). * Handle communication ethically and according to Unity Policy. * Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Eligible for DC Professional License. * Eligible for CDS and DEA registrations (registered in DC) if a prescribing provider. * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Board certified in the area of specialty upon hire. * Licensed within 90 days of hire.
