Nature of Work:
The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) or Certified Midwife (CM) for a year-long Midwifery Early Scholar for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) position with its University Nurse-Midwives (UNM) faculty practice. All qualified CNM/CM applicants will be considered for the position without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
This full-time position (1.0 FTE, benefits-eligible) will have primarily clinical responsibilities and will hold a faculty appointment in the IRC-Clinical Practice Faculty Track with dedicated time for a year to serve as the Midwifery Early Scholar for DEIB (faculty rank is dependent on experience and qualifications). The University of Colorado, College of Nursing currently has four academic midwifery faculty practices and a midwifery education program. The primary practice site will be UNM located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, in Aurora, CO. The Midwifery Early Scholar for DEIB's dedicated administrative time will support the individual's practice, teaching, and leadership development goals and is dedicated to honor and support the importance of professional diversity.
The Midwifery Early Scholar for DEIB is open to all CNM/CM applicants, with a focus on those who have an interest in working with and advocating for patients who have traditionally experienced barriers to accessing healthcare. This year-long opportunity provides mentorship in academic midwifery faculty practices. Mentorship is provided by faculty from diverse backgrounds who can speak to their own professional challenges and successes. The Early Scholar will co-design their curriculum to match their professional goals (e.g., education, research, leadership) and will be matched with identified mentors across the Anschutz Medical Campus. The position includes dedicated clinical practice and teaching workload.

Work is performed independently under the direct supervision of the University Nurse-Midwifery (UNM) Clinical Lead.

Academic Engagement & Mentorship
* Engage in and receive mentorship in incorporating DEIB principles in the academic pillars: scholarship, service, research, clinical practice, and teaching.* Focus on teaching and mentorship priorities by using dedicated time; 0.15 FTE will be dedicated to assigned teaching workload and 0.05 will be dedicated to mentorship.* Work with two primary mentors, one who is a champion for DEIB. One mentor will primarily be responsible for midwifery clinical practice needs, and the other to support professional and intrapersonal goals with the identified focus. Both mentors' primary job is to help ensure the fellow's sense of belonging within the college and the clinical practice.
Clinical:
* Provide full scope care to the gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum client.* Provide care in the outpatient setting, Obstetrics Emergency Department, and Labor & Delivery unit.* Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills in the outpatient and inpatient setting.* Attend monthly practice meetings.* Educate health care team learners (APPs, medical students, residents) and actively participate in student evaluations.* Collaborate with health care teams across all practice settings supporting research and quality improvement initiatives.* Perform work in a health care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious disease.* Actively participate in health plan contracts.* Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
Faculty Practice Description:
UNM works collaboratively within the obstetrics and gynecology department and offers people many services including individualized care, group prenatal care, childbirth education, lactation services, behavioral health services, and referrals to specialty care with the University of Colorado and UCHealth systems. UNM provides full-scope midwifery care to individuals at the Anschutz Medical Campus and inpatient care to patients of STRIDE, a local Federally Qualified Health Center. UNM believes that people benefit from personalized and comprehensive care that focuses on the individual while including the support team in the plan. The practice provides care to families from many countries and strives to offer culturally appropriate care. This position is a faculty appointment and involvement in the College of Nursing is expected. The midwife will be part of a midwifery service that consists of 19 CNMs and has a long and successful history within the University of Colorado system.

Preferred Qualifications:

Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice:
* Master's degree in midwifery from an accredited institution of higher education.* Doctoral degree in nursing, midwifery, an appropriate area of science, or a related area from an accredited institution of higher education.* Current AMCB certification.* Current RN, APN and RxN licensures in good standing (Any State) or applicable certified midwife professional license.
o Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have Colorado licensures by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Current, active DEA licensure.* Limited OB ultrasound experience.* Experience working in a high patient volume and/or high acuity setting.* Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary clinical care teams.* Experience utilizing bilingual skills at a conversation level in a clinical setting.* Experience working with and advocating for patients who have traditionally experienced barriers to accessing healthcare.
Conditions of Employment:
* Must be willing and able to work night and weekend shifts.* Must be willing and able to provide full scope contraceptive services and counseling on abortion services.* Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado RN, APN, RxN, and/or applicable certified midwife professional licenses by date of hire.* Must be willing and able to obtain current board certification as a CNM/CM by date of hire.* Must be willing and able to obtain current DEA license within 18 months of hire.* Must be willing and able to obtain valid NPI number by date of hire.* Must be willing and able to obtain a valid Colorado Medicaid Provider number by date of hire.* Must be willing and able to complete CAQH and all credentialing requirements prior to date of hire.* Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification by date of hire.* Must be willing and able to actively participate in health plan contracts.* Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.* Must be willing and able to work in a patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
