Description

The School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies is pleased to invite applications for a clinical-track Academic Faculty in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Hofstra University. The Department of physician Assistant Studies welcomes applications in Physician Assistant faculty.

The Hofstra Northwell Department of Physician Assistant Studies' mission is to create an interprofessional environment that fosters PA leaders and scholars who deliver empathetic, patient-centered care, and promote inclusivity to the diverse populations they serve.

This position reports directly to Program Director and is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and the Dean of the School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies.

The academic faculty members responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Teaching Responsibilities:Provides instruction across undergraduate and graduate phases of physician assistant student education.Teaches and assesses students in courses such as physical examination and diagnostic modalities, correlative medicine, structure lab, simulation activities, and summative exams.Proctors examinations.Provides clinical instruction, monitors, and collaborates in clinical clerkship courses.Reviews and revises syllabi for assigned clerkships.Obtains clinical sites consistent with the program objectives.Assists with formulation and maintenance of affiliation agreements.Instructs, develops, distributes, monitors, and grades student assignments and assessments such as: clinical presentations, site visits, clinical notes, clerkship specific assignments, simulation cases, patient logging, and review of call back day packets.Updates clinical year software systems such as Exxat.Develop, organize, and monitor student evaluation instruments consistent with the goals of each clinical rotation.Monitor the receipt of all components and assessment instruments during the clinical year.Monitors sites and maintains on-going site evaluation process to ensure quality of preceptors and teaching at each clinical site. Including monitoring mid and end of clerkship evaluations and completing necessary clinical site evaluation forms.Act as a liaison between the program and the preceptors of established clinical sites. Communicates often with preceptors and other key individuals at clinical sites.Addresses student, preceptor, clinical site concerns, issues, blood borne pathogen exposures, deficiencies in appropriate site specific documentation etc.Ensure that each student has all appropriate certifications, immunizations and any other requirements necessary for clinical clerkships.Managing changes or reassignment of clerkships.Partners with faculty in identification of students with performance deficiencies and develops strategies of remediation.Attends and participates in all call back days.Monitors registration of students for assigned clerkships.Other responsibilities as determined by the program director.

Faculty Administrative Responsibilities:Collaborates in and/or conducts following:Annual "clinical year orientation."All aspects of students phase transition (didactic, clinical and research).Monthly "call back" sessions during the clinical year.Student accommodation as delineated by Student Access Services.Cornerstone and other required learning modules.Review and update clinical and preceptor handbooks on an annual basis.Creates, revises, and monitors blood borne pathogen policy and procedure.Identifies, organizes, and oversees topics related to preceptor incentives such as appointment, re-appointment, CME etc.Implement and coordinate additional student support services, including the coordination of all remediation assignments including tutoring.Other responsibilities as determined by the program director.

Faculty Program Responsibilities:Serve as an active member in program committees of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies.Participate in School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies governance.Develop scholarly and research projects.Participate in faculty development programs, events, conferences.Actively engage in University-wide and community admissions events.Including other Departmental, School, and University activities as required.Assist in the evaluation and selection of applicants as a member of the program's Admission Committee.Provide academic advising to students.Review curriculum development, design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the Physician Assistant Studies program.Actively participate in the development, review, and revision of the department and program mission, goals, and competencies.Review and revise student performance evaluation as necessary.Actively participate in the duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation.Attends, participates in, and prepares for all student orientation sessions.Attends, prepares for, and participates in all faculty, end of semester, student-faculty, retreat, and all other departmental and school-wide meetings.

QualificationsMaster's degree required.Current license in New York State, and certification required.Has knowledge of and commitment to the physician assistant profession.Must have a willingness to participate in a collective faculty process.

Salary/Salary Range$95,000-$110,000

Additional InformationHofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.

*Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
