AEMT’s are professionally trained to care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. Provide basic emergency and non-emergency paramedical care to the ill and injured. People’s lives often depend on their quick reaction and competent care. AEMT’s respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities and continue to give care as necessary during the transport of the patient to the hospital.
AEMT’s must always perform their duties in a calm, reassuring and efficient manner. They must be able to maintain their composure in extremely stressful situations in order to assess medical situations and perform emergency lifesaving procedures according to the methods in which they've received training.
They must also be able to safely transfer a patient onto and lift and carry a stretcher into the ambulance in the event the patient needs to go to the hospital.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Functioning under the Emergency Medical Director the AEMTs duties include but are not limited to:
1. Abide by the Regional Policies and Procedures
2. Provide pre-hospital patient care as outlined in Regional Standing Medical Orders.
3. Respond to non-emergent and emergency medical calls for assistance, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or bandaging a wound.
4. Assess a patient’s condition and determine a course of treatment and provide treatment that coincides with the Regional Standing Medical Orders and level of training.
5. Administer medications as outlined in Regional Standing Medical Orders
6. Skills and experience incumbent to function with proficiency at the BLS level of service
7. Use backboards and restraints to keep patients still and safe in an ambulance for transport
8. Help transfer patients to the emergency department of a healthcare facility and report their observations and treatment to the staff
9. Create a patient care report; documenting the medical care they gave the patient
10. Replace used supplies and check or clean equipment after each and every use.
AEMT’S also take patients from one medical facility to another. Some patients may need to be transferred to a hospital that specializes in treating their injury or illness or to a facility that provides long-term care, such as a nursing home.
If a patient has a contagious disease,A EMT’S decontaminate the interior of the ambulance and may need to report these cases to the proper authorities.
Requirements
What you need to succeed:
Skills and experience incumbent to function with proficiency at the BLS level of service.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
High School Diploma or GED.
Tennessee Licensure as Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
Valid Driver’s License with an F endorsement and with a good driving record
Current CPR card
Consent to a criminal background check, prehire physical, and drug screen
Ability to lift/push/pull at least 100+ lbs.
May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
*Must be emotionally stable, have good dexterity, agility, and physical coordination.
Work within the LifeCare Compliance Program
Work with blood or blood-borne pathogens
