Position Summary
The Paraprofessional is a school-based position that focuses on the development and academic success of students. This position assists in the implementation of instructional programs and works alongside a teacher to provide support and assistance in the classroom.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssists the teacher in implementing lesson plans and instructional materials;Works with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher;Provides additional support to students with diverse learning needs;Monitors and manages student behavior in classrooms, hallways, and other school settings;Assists with student transitions between activities and locations;Ensures a safe and inclusive environment for all students;Assists teacher in administering, scoring, and recording achievement and diagnostic tests;Implements program under direction of teachers; operates audio-visual equipment; uses variety of learning materials. Evaluates progress cooperatively with teacher;Assists teacher with required clerical/record-keeping duties;Assists in the setup and arranging of the classroom room, materials, and bulletin boards;Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes;Assists in preparation of instructional materials;Participates in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge; andPerforms other duties as required.
Educational Background (you must meet at least one of the following requirements)Pass the Educational Testing Service (ETS) para-pro assessment to be classified as a highly qualified paraprofessional.;Two Years of Full-Time Study (48 Semester Credit Hours);Obtain an Associate's degree or higher.
Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities RequiredPrevious experience as a Paraprofessional preferred;Educational experience preferred;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and staff.
$26,150 - $34,458 a year
Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday;
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 30 pounds rarely;

- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely;
- Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.
Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
