Description
Summary:
Assists the supervising physician in the management of patients and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the physician's supervision.
Duties:Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.Provide ongoing outpatient care of assigned patients as well as episodic patients;Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice (including schedule 11-V controlled substances) and write orders and prescriptions as necessary for the care of the patient in accordance with Federal and State Law.Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, and x-rays;Carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities;Provide education and counseling to patients and families for preventative care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatment and drugs;Administration of topical anesthesiaProvide preoperative consultationsWrites progress notes and narrative discharge summaries.Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems.Prescribes treatments and services for quality patient care; records the normal and abnormal data for review by the physicians.Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.Monitors progress of patients, reports progress to supervising physician and maintains record of each patient's progress.Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:1-2 years of Orthopaedic experience preferredGraduated from an accredited Physician Assistant educational programCertification from American Academy of Physician AssistantsNorth Carolina Physician Assistant license requiredKnowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy and recoveryFamiliarity with advancements in medical technology and current know-howExcellent communication skillsHealth promotion and maintenanceThe ability to treat patients with compassion and empathy
