To act as the primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment utilized for surgical procedures. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure. Has an understanding of the procedures being performed and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Adheres to departmental and AORN standards as well as hospital-wide policies and procedures. Continuously monitors the quality of care delivered to our patients to promote efficacy, appropriateness, availability, timelines, effectiveness, continuity, safety and efficiency.

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.) Assisting with basic patient care on the Postpartum unit2.) Assist with obtain information for birth certificates.3.) Assist with passing and feeding babies as needed. Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Pre-op Duties:1.) Donning OR attire and Personal protective equipment2.) Gathers, checks and open supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.3.) Performs the surgical scrub, and donning gown and gloves4.) Sets up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure5.) Performs initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with circulator6.) Assists the team members with gowning and gloving7.) Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.8.) Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the "timeout" procedure.
Intraoperative Duties:1.) Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure.2.) Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.3.) Measures and passes medications and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure.4.) Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.5.) Sponges or suctions the operative site.6.) Applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders.7.) Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon.8.) Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.9.) Prepares sterile dressings.
Post-op1.) Helps transport patient to recovery area.2.)Prepares instruments for sterilization3.) Clean the operating room and restock it with supplies,4.)Prepares the operating room for the next case.

Required Experience
Minimum Education
High School Graduate or GED equivalent. Successful completion of Surgical Technology School or programs otherwise acceptable to the Association
Minimum Work Experience
One year experience in surgical environment preferred; new graduates will be considered.
