Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct medical services in the areas of adult and pediatric primary care at the New Bern location of Craven County Health Department / Craven County Community Health Center.Essential Functions
75% Adult Primary CareReview patient medical history, assess, diagnose, and treat a broad variety of adult acute and chronic illnesses. Order appropriate diagnostic testing, therapeutic procedures, and counsel patients. Prescribe medications as indicated by diagnosis. Make referrals to other medical facilities as needed. Document all the above thoroughly and accurately in electronic medical record. Code primary care visits on patient E-superbill appropriately according to level of care given and time spent with patient. Consult with oversight physician on a regular and as needed basis regarding patient care. Meet all documentation requirements for Meaningful Use, PQRS, and UDS reporting measures to receive proper reimbursements for the agency.
15% Child Health Primary CareReview patient medical history, assess, diagnose, and treat a broad variety of pediatric acute and chronic illnesses. Order appropriate diagnostic testing, therapeutic procedures, and counsel patients. Prescribe medications as indicated by diagnosis. Make referrals to other medical facilities as needed. Document all the above thoroughly and accurately in electronic medical record. Code primary care visits on patient E-superbill appropriately according to level of care given and time spent with patient. Consult with oversight physician on a regular and as needed basis regarding patient care. Meet all documentation requirements for Meaningful Use, PQRS, and UDS reporting measures to receive proper reimbursements for the agency.
10% Additional Support
Complete required training to maintain licensure.Maintain CPR certificate.Rotational on call shifts for after-hours phone response.In the event of a disaster, will function as a health professional in a Red Cross Shelter.May rotate to Havelock Office in the event that coverage is needed.Preceptor/Coordinator for the clinical practicum of nurse practitioner students; share in the clinical education of students through mentoring; evidence based clinical management and professional role acquisition.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management.
Minimum Education and Experience
Licensed as Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board and two years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Public Health experience preferred.

Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.
NC401kCraven County contributes 2% of eligible employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 3%.
Annual LeaveRegular full-time employees earn annual leave based upon years of service. Eligible employees begin to accrue annual leave as soon as they start but must complete a six month probationary period before they are eligible to use annual leave.
Less than two years of service earns 10 days per year.
Two but less than five years of service earns 12 days per year.
Five but less than 10 years of service earns 15 days per year.
10 but less than 20 years of service earns 18 days per year.
20 or more years of service earns 20 days per year.
Sick LeaveRegular full-time employees earn 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period. Craven County accepts eligible sick leave from the State of North Carolina, any of its political subdivisions, any local government entity or authority, or municipality in North Carolina.
Paid HolidaysCounty employees receive 11-14 paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners may adjust the holiday schedule as deemed necessary.
LongevityEligible employees earn $200 in longevity after five years of service by October 31 of the qualifying year. Longevity benefits increase $25 per year up to a maximum of $1,000.
Merit ProgramCraven County offers a merit program. Up to 56% of eligible employees may receive a performance-based merit increase each year.
