Job Summary
Provides high quality pre-hospital and inter-facility advanced life support including assessment triage, and treatment utilizing established Clinical Operating Guidelines approved by the GHS Mobile Care Medical Control, with scope of practice; assesses the nature and extent of the illness and injury to establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of the critical care patient to an appropriate facility. Is qualified to provide care for patients across the life-span in assigned clinical area. Assures that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum. Supports MCAS daily operations. When assigned, the Critical Care Paramedic will provide operational oversight of an assigned shift in absence of the assigned supervisor.
Accountabilities
* Provides pre-hospital advanced life support care from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation and completes prior to end of shift. Functions within the scope of practice as defined by state and national regulations. 35%
* Maintains competency in knowledge and skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational requests to the Education Coordinator. 10%
* Attends a minimum of eight (8) critical care educational programs per year pertinent to practice. 10%
* Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to insure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies on board ambulance to deliver patient care. Keeps truck clean and orderly to insure rapid response to all requests. 15%
* Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals and the public.10%
* As assigned by MCAS Director and based on operational needs, will provide one of the following roles on an ongoing basis: Training, Clinical Quality Assurance, Logistics/Supplies, Compliance, Capital Equipment, Research/Analytics, Internal Communications, and Critical Care Team Liaison. All Critical Care Paramedics may be assigned as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for new employee orientation or those in need of additional training or oversight. 20%
* Performs POC testing with approval of Administration. 5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
* Approved Paramedic Education Program
* 3 years as a Paramedic
Licensures/Certifications
* SC Paramedic, National Registry Certified
* BCLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP - Required
* SC Driver's license: Valid driver's license and an acceptable five-year motor vehicle record as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart
* Must hold one of the the following critical care certifications: CFRN (Certified Flight Registered Nurse); OR FP-C (Flight Critical Care Paramedic): OR CCP-C (Critical Care Paramedic Certification); OR CCEMTP (Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program)
In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements
In lieu of a SC Drivers License, a valid drivers license, from a state other than South Carolina, may be accepted if primary residence is not SC.
The required active South Carolina AND National Registry EMS certification meets the educational requirements for this role.
