As a member of our interdisciplinary team, contributes professional prehospital EMS knowledge and skills to patients and their families. Provides a high standard of patient care during non-emergent ambulance transportation. Provides patient care and transportation in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

* Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate medical care. * Reports, verbally and in writing, observations and medical care of the patient. Provides accurate medical documentation of all medical treatment provided. * May be assigned various administrative and/or hospital duties which may include, but is not limited to: inventory and ordering supplies, squad readiness checks/testing's and inventories; verifying that ambulance and its contents are in proper working condition; maintain familiarity with specialized equipment, etc. * Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Initiative processes by properly reviewing patient care reports as set forth by department standards. * Assists in providing assistance in the hospital emergency department * Operates at level of certification as allowed by protocol with medical director approval (EMT/Paramedic). * Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Ambulance Maintenance and Readiness

* Documents daily, weekly, and monthly ambulance/secure ambulance checks to ensure proper stock levels of equipment and supplies. * Prepares the ambulances by ensuring they are cleaned and in a state of readiness.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

* Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. * Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. * Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. * Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. * Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. * Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course.

Experience:

Previous EMS experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current certification at EMT-PM level is required.

Valid Iowa driver's license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart. (see below).

* Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years. * No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.

Current certification in PHTLS, PEARS.

Current NREMT certification.

Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
