Job Summary:
The lactation consultant/educator coordinates the lactation program for the Birth Center. This person also acts as a resource for other units with breastfeeding concerns, provides breastfeeding orientation and educational inservices for staff members and other interested individuals/groups (e.g. clinic staff); and provides community classes and education. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
Prior nursing experience of three to five years in mother-baby nursing is preferred.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). Certification as International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) is required upon hire . American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days. American Academy of Pediatric (AAP) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required within six months of hire.
