GENERAL SUMMARY:

Functions as a medical assistant to Brown Urology Inc. with primary responsibility to the providers and the Practice Manager. Primarily responsible for rooming patients and ensuring necessary medical documentation is entered into the electronic health record, while maintaining exam rooms, sterilizing instruments and assisting with office urological procedures. Works in conjunction with other secretarial staff ensuring smooth patient flow. Knowledge of sterile technique, OSHA regulations, proficiency with electronic medical record systems and expert handling of patient issues and patient confidentiality is essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

: Obtaining and properly documenting in the electronic medical record the patient's vital signs, past medical, social and surgical history, allergies and medications. Reviewing patient forms to ensure they are complete and assist patients with completion of the forms if indicated. Preparing examination rooms for provider needs during office hours including proper cleaning, stocking of supplies in assigned examination rooms. Preparing necessary equipment for urological procedures and assisting providers when necessary Proper handling, cleaning and processing of all contaminated instruments and/or materials as mandated by regulatory guidelines. Ensuring continuity of patient schedules by the timely rooming of patients. Proper collection, handling, labeling and documentation of all specimens and ensuring delivery of specimens to the pathology lab. Responsible for any other duties, clinical or administrative, as may be assigned by the clinical nurse manager.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Degree from an accredited technical school or certification as a medical assistant. 2-3 years of relevant surgical technical support either in a hospital or office setting preferred Medical terminology knowledge Thorough knowledge of Universal Precautions Ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services. Mental and sensory abilities to read process and interpret medical/surgical data. Computer literate with knowledge of electronic medical record systems and data entry This position requires extended periods of standing and transportation to travel to all office locations as needed. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push/pull up to 25 lbs., stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Conditions common to a clinical practice environment including potential exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations and hazardous materials. It involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times.
