Job Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hired at the faculty rank of Instructor (1.0 FTE) carries out duties related to patient care on the Urology Inpatient Service. These duties include inpatient assessment, patient education, care coordination and disease management as well as the provision of urologic consultation to other services. Close collaboration with the surgeons, resident staff and hospital staff will be necessary as this role evaluates and manages patients with urgent and/or emergent complaints in conjunction with the primary surgeon. This position will serve as an integral part of the Urology team providing care to a general patient population while on the Urology Service and during all transitions of care.
This position will be required to provide rotating coverage for weekends (Fridays through Mondays) and holiday services.
Key Responsibilities:
Specific duties and responsibilities of the APP may include, but are not limited to the following:
* Evaluate and manage patients who are candidates for Urology care and/or surgery. This includes obtaining a thorough history and performing an appropriate physical examination and ordering appropriate testing as well as management of patients with post-operative complications. Monitoring overall care and providing education about the risks and benefits of the surgical procedures is also expected.* See and evaluate patients in the hospital, provide documentation, an assessment, and care plan for inpatient stay and discharge care planning.* These duties will include urologic inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders, discharge, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and consultation in collaboration with faculty members and residents.* Triage patient telephone calls and emails and provide consultation.* Provide monitoring and continuity of care for patients between physician visits.* Support and uphold established organizational policies, procedures, objective-related quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control. Which can include attending meetings and participating in committees as requested.* Participates in performance improvement activities, quality improvement, and patient safety activities, assists in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.

* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.* Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.* Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).
Preferred Qualifications:
* One year experience as an Advance Practice Provider (APP).* One year prior experience in a surgical subspecialty or inpatient care.* Previous experience in a urologic clinical setting.
