Details/RequirementL&D RN 19 Bed Unit: 2+ years of L&D experience required. Ratios 1-2:1. BLS, ACLS, & NRP required.*AWHONN intermediate Fetal Monitoring class taken and passed required, AWHONN Advanced fetal monitoring class and EFM certification preferred.*Need to be able to handle HIGH ACUITY patients.*Call required: 12 hours in a 6 week scheduling period.

Float Requirement

FLOATING REQUIRED- Travelers are first to float, possibly float to other sister campuses as well. May step down units at location. IF NEEDED MAY FLOAT TO OTHER SISTER LOCATIONS within the county.

The Labor and Delivery nurse assumes responsibility andaccountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery ofpatient care in the L&D Setting. TheLabor and Delivery nurse demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments inan effective and efficient manner with supervision.

The labor and delivery nurse works with Mothers during thefinal stages of pregnancy helping with birthing, monitoring the Mother's vitalsigns, and becoming astute in signs and symptoms of possiblecomplications. The labor and deliverynurse is involved in patient education and addressing the psychosocial needs ofMothers after delivery and demonstrates critical thinking and performanceability in the coordination of patient care. Consistently performs according to nursing standards and is accountablein managing patient care and assisting others in the management of patientcare.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient careAssess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocialchanges in the patient's conditionCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealthcare members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesPlans for expected outcomes of care for those patientsassignedPerforms interventions according to identified priorities,plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patientenvironmentUses clinical judgment in the evaluation of activities to meetpatient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing prioritiesMonitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipmentPromotes interpersonal relations withpatients/family/significant others, hospital healthcare coworkers, andphysiciansUses effective communication skills with all contacts whilebeing objective and sensitiveCommunicates pertinent information about patient, nursingunit, and activities as appropriateMonitors vital signs for the mother and babyAdministers medication as orderedMonitors contractions and fetal heart rateIdentifies complications during labor and deliveryCommunicates the mother's condition and needs to thephysicianCoaches the mother during labor and delivery and providesemotional supportCaring for the mother after she gives birthPerforms other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

Current Registered Nurse license within the state of practice.?One year of Labor and Delivery clinical experience withinthe last three years preferred.?Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpracticeParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age
