WORK SCHEDULE:

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Perfusionist is independently responsible for the technology of extra-corporeal circulation associated with a variety of surgical procedures and cardiac management therapies. They are responsible for operating the heart and lung machine, temporary ventricular assist devices (VADS), Organ Care Systems (OCS), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenators (ECMO). The perfusionist works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to tailor the perfusion to the needs of each patient. The Perfusionist utilizes the appropriate technology to monitor and maintain patient parameters which includes the regulation of blood pressure, heart rate, urinary output, arterial and venous blood gasses, acid/base status, blood coagulation, temperature, and myocardial protection. Additionally, the mechanical parameters of the circuit must be constantly assessed. Procedures covered include coronary artery bypass grafts, valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysms, heart and lung transplantation, ventricular assist device surgeries, and extracorporeal life support.

This also includes privileges at HMC and the VA which will be about 10% of the position location.

REQUIREMENTS:

* Current certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion within one year of hire.* Graduation from an Accredited Perfusion Technology Program or approved program of Extracorporeal Technology.* Equivalent education/experience
