The RN Staff Nurse Inpatient Weekend is dedicated to providing full time or part time weekend coverage for an inpatient unit. The RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care based on the standards of care and the policies of LCMC Health. The RN delegates to professional and non-professional personnel involved in the delivery of care.

GENERAL DUTIES
Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others
Performs the priority technical procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally. Actively promotes and supports LCMC Health's performance improvement initiatives by: consistently implementing infection control practices, maintaining the environment of care consistent with Joint Commission requirements, and participating in quality improvement activities and review/audit processes. Gives rationale for actions or decisions based on logic, successful experience, intuition, and/or established policies/procedures. Verbal and written communications are clear, concise, and accurate; uses positive non-verbal communication effectively and documents in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner. Demonstrates and actively promotes compliance with all state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (i.e. patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, etc.) and adheres to LCMC Health's policies and procedures.
Utilizes the nursing process to deliver patient care
Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates all aspects of care for each assigned patient by coordinating and delegating activities related to patient care management in an appropriate manner and supervising activity of other unit personnel providing care to assigned patients. Communicates using appropriate channels information, data, significant events of problems to appropriate persons, including: a) current patient condition/status, b) changes in the patient's condition/status, c) laboratory/diagnostic data, d) intake & output, e) nutrition needs/status, f) patient needs, g) assessment findings and changes, h) changes of shift report, i) unit problems, j) patient/family/physician team member complaints, k) defective equipment l) supply usage. Keeps patients informed and gives periodic updates as appropriate and, as applicable, positively contributes to the organizational goal of patient throughput.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care and education
Seeks supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely independently by using interpersonal-communication strategies with individuals that are intended to achieve: desirable/acceptable outcomes/responses and perception of satisfaction by those involved. Delegates safely and appropriately to other team members to accomplish direct patient care or support activities. Decision based upon: acuity/complexity of activity; competency of recipient, ability to supervise, and scope of practice. Consistently performs proper hand-off to ensure continuity of care while identifying and communicating problems. Advises supervisor of current or anticipated problems and willingly accepts assignments and completes in a timely fashion. Uses age-appropriate principles of learning, and initiates, consults, and collaborates with available patient education resources and works closely with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and a social worker to meet the educational needs of the patient/family.
Customer Service
Continuously displays a positive attitude that contributes to patient satisfaction and utilizes the service recovery process to address patients' concern or complaints. Treats all customers with dignity, respect, courtesy, and compassion. Recognizes customer needs and begins to solve problems as soon as they are apparent. Seeks opportunities to share knowledge and skills and readily answers team members' questions in an effort to increase organizational learning and performance. Contributes to the team by providing assistance to others without being asked.
Professional Development
Maintains current knowledge in nursing practice. Regularly participates in activities to maintain and expand nursing knowledge in area of practice. Examples of these activities could be: approved continuing education credit with a central focus in area of practice, professional organization membership, and ACLS. Readily assists others and works in designated alternative areas when needed.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
1 year of professional nursing experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Louisiana.
American Heart Association, BLS-HCP.
