L&D Nurse - Part time
Summary
The Labor and Delivery (Staff) Nurse assists with examinations, labor and delivery, operates and monitors medical equipment, and records relevant statistics. Provides professional nursing care to assigned OB/GYN patients. Observes patient's condition, records observations in patient medical record, and updates attending Nurse Midwife directly when necessary.
Minimum QualificationsGraduate of an accredited school of nursing Bachelor of Science program. Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina.Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience in maternal/child health, labor and delivery, and neonatal care. Previous experience in a birth center setting desirable.Current neonatal and adult CPR certification.
Essential FunctionsKnowledgeable about maternal/child health, pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum care and newborn care.Ability to communicate well both orally and verbally with staff and patients.Able to work well in stressful situations with all types of patients.Able to anticipate needs of CNM, patient and family.Provides direct patient care according to approved policy and procedures. Practices according to policy and procedures required by the NC Board of Nursing.Provides educational, emotional, and physical support to patients and families.Offers support with nursing advice as needed and requested by patients via telephone.Maintains an effective communication link with patients, families, and staff.Works collaboratively with outside agencies to provide care to patients. Shares ideas with supervisor to improve the efficiency and care provided in the birth center.Shares in the duties to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the birth center. Keeps birth rooms/birth center prepared for patient using. Cleans and stocks rooms post delivery.Administers medication and treatment in accordance with licensure and as needed and requested by midwives.Performs needed laboratory duties.Takes on-call shifts and is available to work on 30-minute notice.Submits time sheets on Fridays bi-weekly.Attends and participates in meetings as needed or requested by supervisor.Maintains current neonatal and adult CPR skills and certification.Completes yearly continuing educational requirements to maintain licensure, and provides personnel with a copy of current license.Performs administrative duties needed to meet NC state requirements of newborn documentationPerforms other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
