Emergency Vehicle Technician I

Perform mechanical maintenance and repair on all types of complex firefighting apparatus to include specialized components such as centrifugal fire pumps, hydraulically operated aerial ladders, elevating platforms and computerized electronic control systems, general purpose automotive vehicles and related equipment.
* Perform routine preventative maintenance service in accordance with the established schedule following manufacturers' recommendations for all fire apparatus and equipment.
* Perform routine equipment repairs in response to maintenance requests, in shop or in field locations.* Repair equipment, to include removing/replacing components and potentially fabricating parts.* Use diagnostic procedures and test equipment to identify and correct equipment faults.* Perform mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and electronic analyses and diagnoses.*
Install emergency equipment for fire trucks.
* Operate shop equipment including cranes, welders, compressors, presses, grinders, heavy hand tools, and tire servicing equipment
* Operate vehicles and equipment to aid in diagnostics; pick up and deliver vehicles and parts.
* Clean and maintain the garage area and equipment. Ensure that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
* Maintain records on all maintenance and repair work performed, documenting all work performed including diagnosis, root cause, labor and parts.
* Lift, move and/or installs heavy parts and assemblies safely, using basic tooling and PPE
* May perform work outside under severe weather conditions.
Education
* High School diploma or equivalent required.* Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature.
Experience
* Minimum three years working on automotive heavy duty equipment.* At least six months experience diagnosing and repairing vehicle electrical systems.
Required Qualifications and Expectations
* Obtain NC State Inspection License within six months of hire.* Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, Class C or Class B is required in order to apply.* Obtain the following ASE Certification's within one (1) year of hire:
ASE A5 Brakes & ASE A7 Heating and Air Conditioning.* Must complete and maintain certification for Emergency Vehicle Technician: Fire Apparatus Level I within three (3) years of hire.* Position is required to work a rotating on-call schedule
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position generally requires work in a mechanical garage setting. Outdoor work may be necessary for particular tasks.
