Traditional and lateral transfer applications are currently being accepted. The City of Maplewood may start new employees who are experienced firefighters and/or paramedics at any step in the pay range.
If you're currently a paramedic with no firefighter licensure/training, the city will pay for your training to become licensed as a Firefighter in Minnesota within one year of hire.

Responds to fire, medical or other emergencies as directed. Drives or operates a variety of fire department vehicles and equipment; may be required to perform as pump operator. May act as Incident Commander assigning fire personnel and equipment to emergency situations, contacting police and hospital authorities as needed, calling in additional personnel as necessary, and maintaining radio and/or cellular phone contact with fire and ambulance companies. May record calls received and personnel assigned; provides building diagram information to staff. Drives ambulance or acts as attendant while responding to routine and emergency situations involving ill or injured individuals; provides emergency medical treatment as a paramedic. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation in a pulseless, non-breathing patient. Administers, performs, and applies all other procedures, drugs and skills for which they have been trained and are certified to give, apply and dispense. Responds to medical emergencies from an off-duty status as a call-out Paramedic as directed. Directs and coordinates services of fire and EMT personnel at the scene of a medical response. Instructs at in-service training sessions for police/fire and EMT personnel and citizens promoting a high degree of medical care. Maintains medical supplies; cleans and maintains equipment used in the program. Maintains contact with dispatch and/or hospital to obtain assistance in treating medical conditions. Transports sick and injured persons to medical facilities. Responds to fires and emergency calls; connects and handles hose lines and nozzles; places or hoists ladders; turns water on or off; uses axes, bars, or hooks as appropriate; and utilizes chemical extinguishers or hoses to extinguish a fire. Ventilates burning buildings by opening or breaking doors or windows or cutting holes through walls, roofs or floors; forces entry by breaking glass, springing or forcing doors, windows or gates, cutting locks, bars, or wire grating, or breaking walls. Participates in initial arson investigation by preserving evidence and noting the location and condition of related objects upon entry into a burning building; provides oral or written summaries of facts to the Fire Marshal and/or Investigator; May take pictures at fire scenes. Assists in salvage work after a fire has been extinguished. Assists with fire inspections--inspects existing structures to ensure compliance with the fire codes. Performs routine station duties as directed to maintain cleanliness, readiness, and appearance of apparatus, equipment, station and grounds. Maintains medical and fire service records as requested or required by department policy. Assists with fire prevention and education including speaking at schools, conducting tours of the fire station, taking blood pressures and attending health and home improvement fairs. Tours new businesses and structures to familiarize self with the location of exits, fire doors, stairs, hazardous materials, water shutoffs, alarm panels, etc.; may suggest changes to eliminate fire hazards. Assists mechanic in the repair of maintenance of ambulances or fire apparatus when requested. Must be able to obtain State of Minnesota Paramedic Certification as recognized by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board by date of hire and maintain thereafter, or currently possess Paramedic Certification. Must be able to obtain licensure as a Firefighter as recognized by the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Training and Education by date of hire OR currently possess IFSAC or Pro-Board recognized Firefighter I, Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Operations Certifications.
Must receive restricted advanced life support credentials as recognized by the Department's Medical Director (or designee) by date of hire OR mutually agreed upon time frame.
Possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver's license or equivalent out-of-state license.
