Summary
Performs the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe therapeutic care to patients in the Cancer Center by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Functions as the coordinator of patient care, collaborating with other providers and health team members to provide required care as effectively as possible.Responsible for delivering care within the framework of the nursing process.Administers antineoplastic, immunotherapy and non-oncology medications, including via intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous and intravesical routes.Recognizes and responds to infusion reactions, including hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylaxis.Assesses and manages medication side effects and oncologic emergencies.Uses assessment findings to prioritize patient problems according to their needs.Consistently demonstrates professional skills, utilizes his/her knowledge base to act as a collegial consultant and resource to other staff as assigned.Responsible to comply with all regulatory agency and accreditation standards and requirements.Maintains and demonstrates clinical competency/skills including the ability to provide safe and effective care to our special patient populations and to patients with diverse cultural backgrounds.Performs appropriate assessment, intervention and evaluation.Identifies safety concerns and institutes measures to provide a safe environment.Actively participates in professional role development activities including continuing education, continuous quality assessment and improvement as well as the review and clinical application of research findings.Provides ethically sound care.Coordinates care using a multi-disciplinary team approach.Delivers care within the framework of the ANA standards.Identifies safety concerns and institutes measures to provide a safe environment.Engages the patient in mutual goal setting and collaboration in developing the Nursing plan of care.Participates in development of and ensures compliance with the Cancer Centers' policies and procedures.Ensures that confidentiality and patient information policies and guidelines are observed.Demonstrates leadership and professional growth.Develops and supports Quality Assessment and improvement plans in collaboration with the Nurse Case Manager and Director.Learns, uses and serves as a resource for the electronic medical record system.Navigates the pertinent information from the EMR system effectively.Accesses and extrapolates pertinent information in an appropriate and timely manner.Performs accurate and timely documentation within EMR System.Ensures that procedural charges are entered into the EMR accurately and timely.Participates in clinical audit trials.Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.Complies with System policies and procedures.Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
Associate's Degree Degree from college or vocational school from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty.
3 or more years relevant experience
Required Licenses/Certifications
California Registered Nurse (RN) - Upon hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider - Upon hire
BLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS certification). Within 3 months of hire into job
Other Experience/Qualifications
Required:
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemo Immunotherapy Administration certification within one (1) month of hire into the positionA minimum of one year experience as an oncology nurse.Expert IV therapy skills.Experience assessing critically ill patients in a high acuity oncology, critical care, emergency or equivalent setting.
Preferred:
Oncology experience within the last three (3) years.Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certificationOne year experience as an oncology infusion nurse in an outpatient infusion center.
