JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Community Paramedic Captain, responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments, providing education, and coordinating care of patients who frequently utilize Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
* Works with assigned patients to identify needs, develop goals, choose treatment methods, and articulate specific treatment outcomes and objectives while coordinating advanced care with the Community Paramedics as needed* Serves as a patient advocate and promotes cost effective services* Ensures the maintenance and completion of records, reports, and other information required for Community Paramedic Program* Ensures vehicles and equipment are adequately stocked and in proper working order* Provides training and guidance to field employees on appropriate identification and referral of patient's who may need CHP services* Provides education on appropriate community resources for at risk patients* Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas* Maintains National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliance as set forth by the Office of Emergency Management* Maintains credentialing by the Medical Director* Performs special duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
* Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle and emergency equipment under normal and emergency conditions without any equipment modifications specific to any individual operator* Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, lifting, climbing, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities* Position involves accessing patients on foot over rough terrain and obstacles* Position involves hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear, understandable voice* Position involves extricating persons from vehicles* Position involves assisting partner to carrying equipment and patients weighing up to 225 pounds* Physical Abilities* Must be able to perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting and moving of equipment and patients in a variety of environmental conditions
* Fine Motor Skills* Must be able to perform required medical skills and techniques, such as bandaging, splinting, establishing an IV, performing endotracheal intubation and other advanced airway techniques, manual defibrillation, pleural decompression, and pericardiocentesis
* Vision* Must have correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles* Must have color acuity adequate for determination of skin and blood color* Must be able to read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes
Hearing
* Must be able to hear and understand information provided by patients, family, or bystanders* Must be able to hear breath sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressures* Must be able to differentiate separate conversations in active distracting environments* Must be able to hear and understand radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens
Speech
* Must be able to speak and enunciate clearly and at a level audible to others in loud conditions* Must be able to speak clearly in stressful situations* Must be able to verbally communicate with patients, families, and other emergency personnel
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
* May be required to work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold and wet conditions* High-volume, fast-paced environment dealing with life-threatening situations* Constant contact with the public under duress and in crisis situations
IRREGULAR HOURS
* Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required* May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency* Regular attendance is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma or equivalent* Two (2) years of experience as an EMT* Working knowledge of EMS operations, systems, and procedures
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
* Certified or licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) as an EMT
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
* Valid driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Graduation from an accredited EMT program* Community Health Worker certification* Five (5) years of experience as an EMT
