Job Description:
Reporting to the campus Dean of Academic Affairs, the adjunct faculty member is an important part of our academic community. The primary role of this position is to provide college-level instruction and academic-related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable student success. Working closely with the campus Associate Dean of Academics and the Department Coordinator/Program Director, adjuncts are issued a part-time, temporary term-to-term assignment.
* Teach courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures, as well as Basic Course Information sheets.* Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.* Organize class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the course.* Provide input and work with other faculty and staff to review, produce and/or select course-related materials.* Demonstrates current clinical and theoretical knowledge required by a respiratory care curriculum that is highly responsive to a rapidly changing and demanding job market.* Determine appropriate clinical workload assignments for every student each clinical day, thereby providing an adequate learning environment according to student level of progress* Conduct competency evaluation at the time deemed by the Director of Clinical Education, typically at mid-semester and at the end of each term.
Required Skills:
* Current active Registered Respiratory Therapist [RRT] credential (required).* Current active Florida Respiratory Care license (required).* At least 1 year of Critical Care/ Intensive Care Unit experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (required).* Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.* Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction.* Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.* Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
Working Conditions/Additional Information
* This position is a part-time on-campus position located at our campus. (Remote/hybrid options are not available.)* Weekend and evening work may be required.* Position may be required to work during college closures (such as winter/spring break and inclement weather closures). Requires availability 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.* Reliable transportation is required for travel to campuses and centers. Possession of a valid Florida's Driver's License is required (or must be eligible to obtain a Florida's license within 30 days).* Travel to seminars and conferences required.
Required Education:
* Graduate of Respiratory Care Program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care
* Associate of Science degree in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Science from a CoARC accredited institution.
Preferred Education:
* Bachelor of Science degree in Cardiopulmonary Science or Healthcare Administration.
* or
* Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management with concentration on Healthcare Administration
Preferred Experience:
* Clinical Precepting experience preferred
* Teaching experience is preferred.
