The Orthopedic Registered Nurse focuses on caring forpatients with musculoskeletal diseases and disorders. These orthopedic issues include conditionslike arthritis, bone fractures, broken bones, joint replacements, geneticmalformations, arthritis, and osteoporosis. The Orthopedic Registered Nurse is knowledgeable with traction, casting,mobility devices, and pain management. The Orthopedic Registered Nurse will assist physicians with preparationfor procedures, surgery and assist patients with their postoperativerecovery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient carePerforms focused interviews to identify specific patients'needsAssesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient's conditionCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealth care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesDocuments the patient's plan of care using identifiednursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursinginterventionsIdentifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient carerequirementsProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patientenvironment. Initiates and evaluates patient and/or family educationRevises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes inmedical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventionsDocuments patient's response to nursing and otherinterventionsMonitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipmentMonitors client vital signs. Reports any abnormal vital signs to the healthcare provider and proceedswith any orders, protocols, or PRN medications accordinglyProvides head to toe assessments of patients and providesrelevant data to your supervising health care providerCollects/Prepares blood, urine, tissue, and other clientsamples to send for laboratory analysisProvides dressing changes and assesses the patient and woundfor signs and symptoms of infectionInserts IVs and administers pain medications by theappropriate routeReposition patients safely according to their mobility andsurgical restrictionsPerforms other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
One (1) year of nursing experience preferred in anorthopedic unitCurrent Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practicesOrthopedic Nurse Certification (ONC) preferredComplies with all relevant professional standards ofpracticeParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob siteUnderstands patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age
