Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) providescomprehensive health care for assigned patients/community as determined byscope of practice guidelines and specialty. This includes completion of ahealth assessment, determining diagnosis, planning, and prescribing treatmentwithin the parameters of medical staff privileges at UI Health and area ofexpertise. The APRN participates in the educational experiences of nursingstudents, medical students, residents, and other health care disciplines.

Job Responsibilities:

Manage the care of patients within assigned area and/or area ofexpertise and within parameters of medical staff privileges. Obtain relevantpatient health history. Study and interpret patient tests and records. Performphysical exam and record findings. Perform various diagnostic, preventiveand/or therapeutic procedures and/or order special screenings and developmentalor laboratory tests to diagnose conditions; interpret results. Prescribe/orderappropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and develop atreatment plan. Develop an educational plan for patient/family. Assist withscheduling of patients for upcoming procedures including coordinating withother services (division, departments) and completion of necessarydocumentation, scheduling forms and clearance. Order appropriateconsultation/referral. Determine effectiveness of treatment plan withdocumentation of treatment provided and patient outcomes. Reassess and modifyplan with patient/family and treatment team within the parameters of medicalstaff privileges. Participates in theeducational experiences of nursing students, medical students, residents, andother healthcare disciplines. By being involved in case conferences, serving asa preceptor and mentor, assisting with curriculum development and instruction.The Advanced Practice Nurse is required to have and maintain a facultyappointment in order to receive clinical privileges to practice at theUniversity of Illinois Health System.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projectsas assigned.

Qualifications:

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience:

Master's degree in Nursing or Doctorate degree in Nursingrequired. Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Illinois required. StaffNursing experience in PMHNP or PMHCNS preferred.

Best Candidates:

One year experience and training in AdultPsychiatry. Providingcare for patients in the Psychosis Clinics as determined by scope of practiceguidelines and specialty. This includes completion of an initialassessment. Required to obtainand maintain clinical privileges to practice at the University of IllinoisHealth System through the Medical Staff Office.
