Position Summary:Under the leadership of the Supervisor, E.M.S., Paramedics is an active member of the Emergency Medical Services team that works to determine the strategic vision, goals, philosophy and direction of the department and CRHS. The Paramedic is responsible for operating emergency vehicles and ensuring the vehicles are clean, organize, properly maintained and appropriately stock with medical supplies. Responds to requests for emergency services and establishes and maintains two-way communication with Emergency Service personnel en route to the emergency scene and returning to the Emergency Department. Assess the emergency scene once on site and evaluate and stabilize ill or injured patient. Assess the patients' medical condition, obtains a medical history and communicates that assessment and history to the medical control physician, ensuring the understanding of the medical event. Provides emergency care and treatments to stabilize and transport patients to the Emergency Department and assists Emergency Department physicians and nurses as requested in the treatment of patients.
Basic Qualifications:
Education:Requires a high school education with an emphasis on general studies, biology and the physical sciences and the successful completion of EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, AEMT and Paramedic training programs. An Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
Experience:Requires up to one EMT work-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:Requires and maintains a current state license as a Paramedic.Requires and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support Certifications (ACLS).
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Operates emergency in response to requests for emergency services within a service designed coverage area and complies with all state and local laws governing the operation of emergency vehicles.Ensures that the emergency vehicles are clean, organized, properly maintained and appropriately stocked with medical supplies necessary to respond to emergency situations.Responds to requests from emergency services and establishes and maintains two-way communication with Emergency Service personnel en route to the emergency scene and returning to the Emergency Department, communicating to department staff estimated arrival times and patient vital statistics.Assess the emergency scene once on site and evaluate and stabilize ill or injured patient within the scope of parameters established by state law.Performs emergency vehicle extractions and disentanglement as needed.Assess the patients' medical condition, obtains a medical history and communicates that assessment and history to the medical control physician, ensuring the understanding of the medical event.Provides basic first aid and treatment takes and records patient vital signs, oxygen levels, and other pertinent medical data and information.Documents medical history, vital signs, other pertinent information and assessment findings in an appropriate form for inclusion in the patients' medical record.Applies basic sterile and isolation techniques in the treatment of patients and administers IV therapy, parenteral injections and diuretics based on patient condition and as directed by a medical control physician.Calculates and verifies dosages of drugs and medications for direct or IV administration.Loads patient into the emergency vehicle once stabilized and transport to the Emergency Department and provides emergency care and treatment while in transit under the direction of the ED Physician.Assists in the transportation of patients into and out of the Emergency Department and between various departments in the hospital.Assists Emergency Department physicians and nurses as requested in the treatment of patients.Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergency equipment used in the care of patients.Assist in training new technicians.Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Meets or exceeds goals and expectations assigned and as measured through the Employee Evaluation Measurement System (EEM).Follows established procedures and protocols for communicating with emergency vehicles transporting patients to the CRHS Emergency Department and preparing equipment anticipated to treat the patient.Adheres to established procedures and protocols for transporting patients being received by the Emergency Department and for delivering patients to other departments within CRHS.Complies with all medical and nursing staff directions and orders in a timely manner and all STAT orders immediately.Performs all routine and technical emergency medicine care and treatment according to department standards of care.Performs advanced and technical emergency medicine care and treatments, starts IVs, administers medications, performs certain invasive procedures, establishes and reads telemetry measures, defibrillates patients and intubates patients following established department standards for patient care.Adheres to all CRHS standards and practices associated with sterile techniques and isolation of potentially contagious patients.Maintains equipment and medical supply inventories in the EMS Department according to established standards and demonstrates proficiency in using emergency equipment.The ability to negotiate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of the organization, with patients, family members, and within the community.Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills in communicating with CRHS staff, patients, family members and referral sources and others, so that CRHS and EMS are positively perceived by the community.Attends and participates in in-service training and complies with CEU requirements for maintaining all job-related registrations and certifications and assists in the training of new EMTs.Suggests performance improvements aimed at increasing operational efficiencies, process improvements and patient outcomes.Maintains up-to-date knowledge of procedures and interpretations of related federal, state & JCAHO laws and regulations relevant to emergency medicine.
