Job Summary / Purpose
Provides professional patient care and transportation in accordance with all departmental and St. Joseph Health System operating policies, city and state laws, and applicable contracts.Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Personal, crew, patient and bystander's safety: scene size up, emergency scenes are dynamic events; the paramedic should always look out first for their safety and then the safety of others.Patient Assessment and delivery of care: provides patient care functions according to protocol, procedure and written directives to level of certification. Performs a patient assessment throughout a call on every patient encountered, providing appropriate treatment and transportation decisions within the P2 scope of practice.Synchronized cardioversionMedication administration of: Ancef, Dopamine, Etomidate, Fentanyl, Heparin, Labetalol, Metoprolol, Levophed, Phenergan, Rocuronium, Versed.MICU transportsRapid Sequence Induction (RSI)External Jugular vein accessSurgical cricothyrotomyMaintains and improves skill level and knowledge base: attends/participates in 75% of annual departmental training and completion of annual Skills Competency Fair.Lifting and moving patients: ensure proper lifting, moving patients safely and effectively. Assist with movement of patients to and from stretcher and wheelchair.Transport and Transfer of Care: verifies patient identification prior to transport, contacts receiving facility prior to delivery along with providing a patient care report, also providing safe delivery to or from the hospital and aircraft. Transfer the patient to the appropriate facility and health care provider giving complete/accurate verbal patient care report.Record keeping and data collection: neatly and accurately completes written and electrical Patient Care Reports (ePCR).Patient Advocacy: assist patient with special concerns that will need to be brought to hospital personnel's attention (i.e. geriatric patient who may require additional home care).Completes daily equipment checks and maintenance: assures equipment readiness, including cleaning as needed or required, along with proficiency in equipment operation safely, repairs within scope of abilities, and reports deficiencies when noticed to supervisor and relief crew.Checks all MICU equipment and medicationsAssures geographic knowledge of service area (communities, towns, cities and counties), utilizing appropriate map/GPS reading skills.Checks MediTech, HealthEMS and other information devices while on duty daily.Drives vehicles safely and prudently, motor vehicle report (driving record) must be approved prior to employment and insurance eligibility must be obtained throughout employment.Arrives for assignment and duties at appropriate time, working all locations assigned.Level II requirements:Have had no disciplinary issue (counseling) within the last 12 months.Received a score of Meets Expectations or greater on the most recent Annual Performance Evaluation.Has 1 year of experience as a paramedic in a 911 system or 6 months of paramedic experience in the St Joseph system.
