Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County. Sun River Health is currently seeking a part-time Nurse Practitioner to join its busy team at our Shirley, NY site.
A Nurse Practitioner, under the direction of the of a physician, is responsible for planning, evaluating and delivering the health care of patients on assigned service. Emphases preventative health measures and education of patients. She/he will perform other duties as assigned and in compliance with systems and job specific standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for a Nurse Practitioner:
* Takes histories, performs physical examinations, gives immunizations (as necessary) and does patient education and counseling.* Orders appropriate lab work, draws blood for lab work if needed, and performs some lab tests such as wet prep microscopic exams.* Prescribes treatment for minor illnesses, and consults with physician regarding medication, chronic illness and referrals when appropriate.* Maintains legible and appropriate documentation and reviews records periodically. Does follow-up of abnormal pap smears and reportable STD's.* Attends case conferences involving patients.* Attends continuing education programs to increase skills and knowledge.* Attends provider meetings and participates in quality improvement programs and team assignments.* Identifies and categorizes each patient's age-specific grouping of needs, such as those infants, adolescent, or geriatric patients.* Follows OSHA standards of infection control under CDC guidelines endorsed by department, organization, and overseen by Infection Control Officer.* Provides safe and successful performance, including meeting productivity, quality and patient satisfaction standards.
Minimum Education Requirement: Master's Degree
Minimum Work Related Experience: 5-8 years; 4 years of business office experience, preferably in a large medical practice with increasing levels of responsibility.
Preferred Work Experience: 8+ Years
Minimum Licensure: Valid license as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State
Required Skills & Knowledge:
* Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment procedures that nurse practitioners are trained to do and are necessary for practicing in health care centers.* Competence in delivery of health care to patients (including preventative health education)* Ability to collaborate with other members of the Health Center in order to maintain high quality standards and achieve client satisfaction.* Bilingual in both English and Spanish (orally and written) is preferred
