Who We Are St Johns Episcopal Hospital is the only hospital providing emergency and ambulatory care to the densely populated culturally and economically diverse and medically underserved populations of the Rockaways and Five Towns in southern Queens County and southwestern Nassau County New York Celebrating over 110 years of community care the 257 bed facility provides people of all faiths with comprehensive preventive diagnostic treatment and rehabilitative services regardless of ability to pay Come Grow With Us Type Per Diem Shift Days Hours Varies Pay 5119 7028 per hour depending on education and years of experience Shift differentials apply This position reports directly to a Physician Director of Nursing and Chief Clinical Officer Job Summary The Oncology nurses main duty is to supervise and provide nursing care to cancer patients They monitor the patients conditions develop care plans develop symptom management protocols and administer medication They often witness patients suffering; however such tremendous stress is offset by the relationship that they form with patients and their families The responsibilities of oncology nurses go beyond direct patient care with roles as researcher manager consultant and patient educator They work hand in hand with physicians and other healthcare time members to ensure the greatest quality of care for the patient Oncology nurses offer a wide range of service from cancer prevention to direct care through palliative supportive and rehabilitative services Oncology nursed often work in sterile andor clean chemotherapy suite environments Oncology nursed should adhere to strict confidentiality terms and policies because of the delicate health condition of patients with cancer Full time oncology nurses usually work 375 hours a week but might need to be available 7 daysweek for emergency situations Responsibilities Create individualized care plans for patients under their supervision and careRecognize and treat cancer related issuesMonitor and char vital signs weight and heightDo cancer research to enhance treatment protocols assigned to cancer patientsGive supportive resources on the patient and the families to promote positive outlookTeach patients and the families regarding treatment expectationsWatch and record the patients process on a constant basisChart he patients responses to treatment and medicationComplete MAR after treatmentProvide the patient with discharge instructions that are specific to the patient as well as emergency numbers after careRequirements Active RN license in the State of New YorkBLS ACLS certificationsCertification in the administration of chemotherapy biologic treatmentsExcellent assessment skillsMinimum of 1 year working in a medical facility
