Contract: 185 Days
Reports to: Principal/Director of Special Services
Location: Williston-Elko Middle School/Williston-Elko High School
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy.
Position will be open until filled.
Qualifications:
The person in this position should have the following credentials:A current unrestricted South Carolina Registered Nurse LicenseBe a graduate of a State approved nursing programBasic computer skills required, keyboarding proficientRed Cross or American Heart Association BLS, CPR CertifiedA minimum of one year experience (preferred)
Responsibilities:Administers first aid and care to ill or injured students and staff as stipulated by District Policies and Procedures, student care being the main objective.Documents nursing interventions and maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.Provides reports as required by the District and State utilizing reporting systems.Identifies students with chronic illnesses, students whose conditions could result in emergency care, and students who will self-administer and self-monitor medications and/or procedures while at school.Prepares Individual Health Care Plans and/or Emergency Action Plans on those students with chronic illness, students with conditions that could result in an emergency, and students who self-administer/self-monitor medications and/or procedures while at school. Prepares the necessary care plan and obtains signatures from the parent, the health care provider, and the student when applicable.Assumes responsibility for monitoring student immunizations required by law and completing a 45-day immunization report required by SCDHEC.Performs vision and hearing screening and appropriate follow-up as recommended by the State and District. Performs Assistance Team Screenings when indicated by Special Education Services.Administers medication to students according to District and Nursing Board policies and guidelines, always adhering to LLR Nursing Board Guidelines.Completes training on medication administration when applicable for field trips and when there is no RN at school.Keeps the school principal informed of any health-related problems and/or injuries at school requiring immediate care by EMS or parent pick up. Completes appropriate incident reports and coordinates with District Office.Reports outbreaks of communicable diseases to the principal or Director of Special Services as appropriate. Adheres to the SC Exclusion Laws. Keeps principal aware of process of reporting.Completes Medicaid billing requirements and all paperwork associated with Medicaid in a timely manner.Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the principal or Director of Special Services as appropriate, keeping duties to students in the health room as a first priority.
Professional Growth Responsibilities:Attends nursing in-service programs provided by the District and State agencies.Recognizes the need for and secures verification of competencies for required procedures.Maintains South Carolina licensure.
