4/09Job Summary:The Registered Nurse (RN) manages and coordinates the nursing care activities during the client's hospitalization in accordance with organization policies and procedures. This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning and establishing outcomes, implementation, and evaluation.

Based on this process, the RN directs and is responsible for other personnel involved in client care.

The RN maintains professional accountability for all nursing care provided to clients in the organization. Demonstrates competency in nursing judgment.

Maintains awareness of economic barriers of health care and acts accordingly.

Demonstrates knowledge of nursing care needs and treatments for clients of various clinical specialties in compliance with established standards of nursing practice.

Will be required to work with clients 18 years of age and older.Essential Functions and Duties:Ability to organize and coordinate nursing care delivery for clients assigned.No performance deficiencies caused by failure to adapt to new techniques.Ability to direct others in health care delivery.Requires regular talking and hearing.Must be able to stand 4-6 hours.Provides direct client care activities if required, in accordance withdefined department and organization policies and procedures.Requires a concentrated level of attention.Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.Position Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Current Illinois license.

B.S.N. preferredor equivalent years of experience.

BLS certification required.

Demonstrates clinical competence; Assumes responsibility for own continued personal and professional growth.Preferred Skills and Abilities:Ability to operate standard office equipment (i.e. copier, facsimile machine, 10-key, etc.); personal computer and printer and specific computer software (MS Office applications and Meditech).Physical Demands:Requires grasping and reaching with hands/arms.Ability to lift up to, but not limited to 25 pounds when assisting clients, turning clients or assisting client with activities.Requires bending, stooping, and walking.Requires good body mechanics to prevent injury.Function Duties and Responsibilities:Provides appropriate nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of clients on the unit.Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees.Identifies problems and uses critical thinking skills to develop solutions.Creates a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel.Accurately and promptly implements physicians

orders.Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications.Records information concisely, accurately and completely.Complies with all infection control policies and procedures.Coordinates and provides emergency care as needed.Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.Evaluates the performance of personnel with recommendations for appropriate action.Complies with all organization policies, and assists in the review and revision of policies and procedures.Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.Adjust interventions based on age appropriate guidelines as indicated.Demonstrates abilities to set priorities in directing and/or providing safe client care by functioning in an organized and time conscious manner.Complies with and is knowledgeable of organization and department safety procedures and policies.Contributes to the care of the environment by maintaining work areas and assisting with light housekeeping tasks as needed.Maintains customers

rights (confidentiality, privacy, safety, security).Adapts easily to changes in work assignment and environment.

Accepts working assignments according to client care needs in accordance with job skill level.Performs basic tasks in a timely manner with minimum guidance and supervision.Demonstrates willingness to work toward department and organization goals and objectives.Assists with the development and implementation of unit goals.Conducts group therapies and assigned.Participates in multidisciplinary treatment planning and revises plan of care based on assessment.Participate and promote activities regarding Process Improvement.Provides care based upon client's age specific needs.Supports organization s philosophy, participates as a team member, and shows courtesy, respect, and concern for the needs of others.
