DepartmentLabor and Delivery
Labor & Delivery is a total of three units; Obstetrics Screening Room (OBSR), Obstetrics Special Care Unit (OBSCU) and Labor and Delivery (L&D). Labor and Delivery is a 15-bed unit responsible for the care for both low and high-risk moms. This unit offers both medicated and unmedicated birthing options, and our nursing staff is skilled in providing a variety of labor support techniques. We have three operating rooms and five post anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays. Additionally, we have an 8-bed triage unit and an antepartum unit.
Job Summary
The Nursing Apprentice, under the direct supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care activities. The Nursing Apprentice role allows nursing students an opportunity to enhance clinical skills in a hospital environment while still enrolled in an ADN or BSN program. The Nursing Apprentice I adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute".
Essential Functions :Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including but not limited to, monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output. (30%)Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to, bathing, grooming and eating. (10%)Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. (10%)Assists with keeping unit(s) and patient rooms stocked, clean, and orderly. (10%)Develop specific clinical nurse skills through observation of experts and supervised, hands-on experience. (10%)Documentation that complies with clinical guidelines. (10%)Partners with interprofessional team on healthcare consumer throughput by proactively solving problems related to capacity and healthcare consumer flow. (10%)Collaborates with interprofessional teams to incorporate Lean principles for quality improvement initiatives. (10%)
Education :Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required
Work Experience :less than 1 year Must have successfully completed Med/Surg 1 at time of application with the ability to provide transcript with grade. Required
Licenses :BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.Ability to ensure confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care.Ability to ensure all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients/clients to who care/service is being provided.Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient's status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/ services is being delivered/provided.Ability to complete and maintain clinical competency standards.Familiarity with EHR Documentation
