CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
University of Delaware Student Health Services (SHS) seeks a dynamic Sexual and Reproductive Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team to serve the needs of our growing campus. SHS is the primary student health unit on the University of Delaware campus. With over 42,000 patient-visits per year, this comprehensive center includes Primary Care, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Sports Medicine, Immunization and Allergy, Nutrition, Lab, X-ray, and Medical Dispensary. This NP/PA will provide Sexual and Reproductive Health and gynecologic services on an outpatient basis, including gynecologic procedures, contraception, LARCs, STI screening, menstrual conditions, and more.
This is a 10-month position, 8/1-5/31.
Student Health Services (SHS) is the primary student health unit on the University of Delaware Campus. Situated within the Division of Student Life, SHS provides essential services and support to students and campus stakeholders to enhance the development of personal and social responsibility and to foster safe, healthy, inclusive, and supportive communities at UD. SHS partners with students and staff to develop vibrant inclusive environments which encourage student success and engagement, a culture of care for all members, values-congruent decisionmaking, and the cultivation of skills and knowledge so students may become citizens and leaders in our increasingly global society. Staff members support the Mission and Vision of Student Health Services as well as those of the Division of Student Life to ensure student success. The Sexual and Reproductive Health Services Nurse Practitioner (APRN) / Physician Assistant (PA) reports to the Medical Director of Student Health Services and is responsible for the delivery of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care to university students on an outpatient basis, with a particular focus on serving the gynecologic needs of the student community. Responsible for appropriate specialist referral as required. Confers with patients, parents, families, consulting physicians, and University personnel as appropriate. Consults with the Medical Directors, Director of Nursing, Practice Manager, other SHS providers, nurses, and staff as appropriate. Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate medical records. Responsible for maintaining medical licensure and professional competence.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct patient care as a Sexual and Reproductive Health Services NP/PA, with a particular focus on gynecologic care.
- Perform gynecologic procedures as needed, including insertion and removal of IUDs and implants.
- Prescribe contraceptives and emergency contraception as indicated.
- Complete medical record documentation in a proper and timely fashion per SHS Policies and Procedures.
- Communicate regularly with patients, families, specialists, ancillary services, and emergency medical personnel.
- Work with other university departments to coordinate care for students. This may include the Center for Counseling and Student Development, Health Promotion, Disability Support Services, Dean of Students Office, Title IX, UD Police Department, and others.
- Help promote and guide the integration of wellness services for students across university resources.
- Focus on education of university students to promote sexual health.
- Provide verbal, written, and didactic education to patients and other clinical staff as indicated or requested.
- Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines. - Serve on committees as desired and as requested by the Medical Director.
- Precept Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant students during affiliate clinical rotations.
- Maintain professional competence through appropriate continuing education courses and affiliations with professional societies as necessary for full, unrestricted clinical licensure.
- Show continued professional development through continuing medical education programs.
- Participate in peer review to assure overall quality of patient care.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to students of diverse backgrounds and commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
- Delegate appropriate tasks.
- Other appropriate duties as assigned by the Medical Director and/or SHS Leadership team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Nursing or accredited Physician Assistant program with three to five years of relevant provider experience.
- Currently licensed and certified as a Physician Assistant or Adult/Family/Women's Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Delaware
- Evidence of completion of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program from an accredited educational institution.
- Current unrestricted Controlled Substance Registration by both the State of Delaware and Federal DEA.
- Current basic CPR certification.
- Previous Gynecology, Sexual Health, or Women's Health practice experience preferred.
- Competency in insertion and removal of IUDs and implants.
- Competency in suturing, biopsies, and incision & drainage strongly preferred.
- Ability to convey clinical information to patients in accessible terms. - A commitment to the development and growth of students in higher education.
- Strong, communicative, and human relations skills required.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and rapidly changing technical environment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of criminal background check.
- Successful credentialing by the Medical Director and verification of credentialing information through the National Practitioner Data Bank and the American Medical Association required
