Description

I) Job Purpose

Admits youth experiencing crisis into short-term respite care. Utilizes a nurturing, trauma-informed approach when interacting with youth and families, prioritizing the enhancement of youth resilience during their stay. Works in collaboration with internal and external medical providers, overseeing medication management for youth in care. Receives cross-training for various responsibilities across different programs and settings.

II) Essential Functions

A) Perform nursing assessments and interventions across Crisis Services Department programs to address patient's behavioral and physical health needs effectively.

B) Communicate succinctly with team members, keeping them informed of pertinent patient updates.

C) Make medication decisions and provide oversight for unlicensed staff in medication competency.

D) Complete all clinical documentation accurately and timely in the electronic health record.

E) Provide leadership and act as a subject matter expert for medical concerns in Crisis Services.

F) Coordinate responsibilities with MA/LVN to optimize program efficiency and RN's focus on licensure-level tasks.

G) Serve as a liaison between clinical team and patients, ensuring excellent customer service and education on services.

H) Assess and determine ongoing patient needs, tracking progress toward recovery goals.

I) Operate in accordance with Nurse Practice Act and applicable guidelines for medical orders.

J) Provide cross-coverage for Crisis Services programs as needed, including Adolescent Crisis Respite Unit, TYRC (The Campus), and CFS Youth Clinics.

H) Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the public and healthcare team.

J) Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

K) Endurance to stand for long periods and maintain emotional/physical health.

L) Reads and interprets clinical documentation, policies, and procedures.

M) Completes all required agency trainings and refresher courses.

N) Demonstrates physical strength for patient lifting and equipment movement.

O) Adheres to Texas Nurse Practice Act, Mental Health Rules, Medicaid Standards, DSM V, ICD 10, ANA Code of Ethics, and MHMR Tarrant Policies and Procedures.

IV) Internal & External Customer Service

A) This position requires extensive internal and external contacts. The employee will accomplish this with advanced written and verbal skills.

B) Must demonstrate, compassion, emotional control, and safety practices including suicide safe care.

V) Travel

A) Adhere to MHMR Mileage and Travel reimbursement policy and any other aspect regarding travel.

B) Available and capable of serving at any Crisis Services Department program.

C) You may be expected to use your personal vehicle up to 70% of the time.

D) The company vehicle should be used when available for the transporting of patients.

E) In the case that a personal vehicle needs to be utilized, permission needs to be received from the employee's direct supervisor at each occurrence especially if transporting a patient.

A) Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree

B) Defined Education: Nursing

C) Preferences: Bilingual; Experience in Behavioral Health: psychiatric, mental health nursing, or substance use disorder nursing

D) Substitutions: None

E) Years' Experience: None

F) Defined Experience: None

G) License/Certifications: Current RN License in the state of Texas, CPR Certification, Valid Texas Driver's License

H) Special Courses: None

I) Supervisory Experience: None

VIII) Agency Requirements

A) All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key/essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.

B) This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and/or the Division/Director.

C) Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.

D) The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.

E) All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non-exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.

F) MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate.

G) Employment is at will, as well as agency needs may change.

H) Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.

I) Physical on-site presence, including regular attendance and punctuality, is an essential function of this position. Any changes or adjustments to your assigned work schedule or shift hours must be approved by your supervisor in advance.
