Summary:The Lactation Consultant is an expert in the management of complex lactation issues. This position is responsible for educating and assisting mothers of Baptist Health infants in breastfeeding basics and helps resolve problems for breastfeeding mothers who experience difficulties. The Lactation Consultant educates staff to assist with breastfeeding consultations and maintains breastfeeding resources. The Lactation Consultant maintains breastfeeding statistics and may participate in related outcomes research. This person also collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, specifically Speech Therapy and Dieticians in the nutritional care and prevention of complications for pediatric patients related to breastfeeding.
Other information:Graduate from an accredited university/college with Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Nutrition. Past IBCLC experience in a neonatal intensive care or mother/baby unit as an IBCLC preferred. Current IBCLC certification or eligible to sit for the exam; if not currently certified must apply to sit for the exam at the next scheduled application date. CPR certification required. RN or Dietician required. Ability to successfully counsel and assist mothers with breastfeeding skills. Ability develop educational programs for families and staff. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective relationships with medical and nursing staff, employees, and the general public.
