University of Iowa Health Care Department of Gastroenterology/Hepatology (General Gastroenterology Service) is seeking a Physician Assistant to assist the faculty in performance of direct patient care services for adult general Gastroenterology and to perform direct patient care services under faculty supervision.
Duties to include:
* Outpatient Clinics* Prepare a complete, detailed and accurate initial patient history and perform a complete physical exam of selected patients in the outpatient clinic* Present the history and physical exam to the GI faculty and participate in potential re-examination of the patient by the faculty* Develop a diagnostic and therapeutic management plan under faculty supervision* Develop and manage a "return" patient clinic for patients at high risk of developing GI malignancy
* Diagnostic and Therapeutic Unit* With respect to the above outpatient procedures, the physician's assistant will be expected to participate in discussion and interpretation of study results and correspondence with house staff and referring physicians as needed* The PA will also be accountable for patient education, the informed consent process, serve as a resource for patients' questions/concerns, monitor patient adherence to dietary restrictions, and preparation of the patient for procedures* Maintain responsibility for handling all details including follow-up related to the assigned procedures

Since its foundation nearly 40 years ago, the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has continuously distinguished itself as a highly ranked specialty within the Department of Internal Medicine. As part of the James A. Clifton Digestive Health Center, it provides state of the art medical care to patients with gastrointestinal or liver diseases and nutritional problems in a multidisciplinary environment. The Center also plays an important role in the education of students, residents and fellows and offers a variety of learning opportunities for continuing medical education of physicians and other health care professionals. The nationally and internationally recognized faculty conducts many clinical and basic science research projects to further our understanding of gastrointestinal and liver diseases and help design better treatment for patients with these illnesses. Required Qualifications
Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
Desirable Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in GI is desired.
