RN, Lactation Consultant - Part Time

Job Summary: Provides lactation coverage for both campuses as per FTE requirement. Sees patients throughout both hospitals, including but not limited to, NICU, Labor and Delivery East, Mother/Baby East, OB/GYN BEH, L&D BEH, CH300 & CH400, and Children's clinics. Assists and educates mothers and their families concerning lactation and provides phone consultations after discharge.

Education: Required: Completion of IBCLC (International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants) certification & maintains current educational requirements for certification. Graduate from accredited school of nursing.

Experience: Required: Knowledge of lactation process, lactating family, & referral process for lactating families, and of adult education principles. Minimum of 3-5 years experience working with childbearing families in maternal health nursing.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: Certification by IBCLC. Current license to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. BLS prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward, NRP, STABLE, and CPI - current or within 6 months of hire.

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Department Position Summary: A Lactation Consultant/Parent Educator employed by Erlanger Health System (EHS) is responsible for providing lactation education/support throughout the Erlanger Health System as needed. In addition, he/she will manage the care of complex lactation concerns to facilitate optimum health. Coordinates and facilitates inpatient parent education to meet discharge needs. Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff, internal and external to the organization. Participates in continuing quality improvement and evaluation processes related to the management of care.
